Israeli Security Minister, Israel Katz, issued direct instructions to the army command regarding the necessity of beginning operational preparations for the occupation of an additional refugee camp in the West Bank. This step replicates the widespread military operations that previously targeted the Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams camps, which witnessed extensive destruction of infrastructure and displacement of residents.
These instructions came after a high-level security meeting held by Katz on Monday evening, which included Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and commanders of the Military Intelligence Directorate and the Central Command. Representatives from the General Security Service (Shin Bet) and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories also participated in the meeting to discuss ways to escalate security control in various governorates of the West Bank.
Informed sources confirmed that the new approach aims to expand the scope of offensive activity against Palestinians under the pretext of preemptive operations, with a focus on complete control over densely populated areas. Observers believe that these moves fall within a broader plan aimed at igniting the field situation to create conditions for forced displacement operations and the expansion of the settlement project.
Field data indicates that the occupation army has succeeded over the past year and a half in displacing approximately 40,000 Palestinian citizens from camps in the northern West Bank. These camps have been subjected to repeated incursions and a long siege, which led to the emptying of large parts of them of their original inhabitants and the systematic destruction of their property.
In a related context, local sources observed intense military focus over the past three days on Balata camp, located east of Nablus city, which is considered one of the most densely populated Palestinian camps. Approximately 40,000 refugees live in this camp in a very small geographical area not exceeding a quarter of a square kilometer, which portends a humanitarian catastrophe if the threats are carried out.
These military threats coincide with an escalation of settler attacks, protected by occupation forces, in various contact areas in the West Bank. This integrated policy between the political and military levels and the settlers aims to tighten the noose on the Palestinian presence and push residents towards forced displacement away from vital cities and camps.
Instructions were issued to the army to expand offensive activity and prepare to take control of an additional refugee camp according to the model of dealing with the northern camps.
