Trump threatens Iran with 'harsh military punishment' after Houthis target Saudi oil tankers

US President Donald Trump announced that Iran and the Houthi group would face a violent military response, following the group's announcement of targeting two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. Trump affirmed that Washington would hold Tehran directly responsible for any future attacks carried out by the group, describing them as proxies working on behalf of the Iranian regime.

These field developments led to severe disruptions in energy markets, with Brent crude prices jumping to over $100 per barrel, an increase of 6%. These threats come after the collapse of a temporary truce, followed by the US military carrying out airstrikes inside Iran, and Tehran responding by targeting US bases in Jordan and Kuwait, thus expanding the conflict to vital shipping lanes.

For his part, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that pressure on Tehran would escalate nightly until it agrees to a new deal, noting that Iran is incurring heavy losses due to the current confrontation. In a related context, security sources confirmed that the tanker 'Incelia' caught fire after a missile attack near Jazan port, while the Jordanian army announced it intercepted Iranian missiles and drones that penetrated its airspace.

These Houthi attacks raise international concerns about the closure of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a key artery for global trade and energy. US officials warned that imposing a naval blockade on Saudi exports could drag the region into an all-out war, at a time when Trump threatened to target Iranian infrastructure, including power stations and bridges, for every attack on ships in international waters.

If they do that again, the United States will hold Iran responsible, because the Houthis are a proxy force for Iran, and a very harsh military punishment will be inflicted upon them.
