The U.S. Department of Justice revealed exciting details of a terrorist plot targeting the White House, as a federal grand jury formally indicted eight men aged between 19 and 32. This legal step comes after extensive investigations led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation into a conspiracy aimed at launching an attack during a mixed martial arts event held at the U.S. presidential residence last June.
Judicial authorities clarified that the indictment includes serious charges related to international terrorism and planning premeditated killings, as the defendants face charges of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. The charges also include planning to assassinate prominent government officials and committing murders in areas under federal jurisdiction, reflecting the seriousness of the thwarted plot.
According to the investigations, the list of targets set by the defendants included figures of global political and economic weight, led by U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. The list also included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, billionaire Elon Musk, along with a number of senior officials in the U.S. administration and prominent Republican Party donors.
Regarding the military tactics used in the plot, security sources indicated that the defendants planned to use drones equipped with explosive devices to bomb the North Wing of the White House. The goal of this initial bombing was to create a state of panic and mass escape among attendees, forcibly directing them towards pre-determined exits by the attackers.
The bloody plan included deploying snipers in strategic locations surrounding emergency exits, where political figures and officials were to be targeted as they attempted to flee the scene of the explosions. The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed that it was able to monitor these movements and thwart the operation in its final stages before it became actually implemented last month.
Regarding how the cell members coordinated, the Department of Justice stated that the defendants relied on encrypted electronic applications and platforms and chat forums to exchange instructions and distribute roles. These platforms included 'Signal', 'Discord', 'TikTok', and 'Instagram', where they used these digital means to avoid traditional security surveillance during the preparation period for the operation.
Arrests began in Columbus, Ohio, where the first suspects were apprehended before the circle expanded to include the rest of those involved in other states. The timing of the alleged attack coincided with the United States' celebrations of the 250th anniversary of independence, an event that saw extensive attendance from U.S. state leaders and international guests.
Despite the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's name on the list of main targets for the plot, he did not attend the event held at the White House at the time. As of now, no official comment has been issued by the defendants or their legal defense teams regarding these charges, which could lead to life imprisonment if convicted.
The plot involved using explosive-laden drones to bomb the North side of the White House, aiming to drive attendees towards exits where snipers were positioned.
