A Hebrew report revealed a tragic increase in the number of Palestinian prisoners who have died inside Israeli occupation prisons, with the number reaching 110 prisoners since the extremist minister Itamar Ben Gvir took office as Minister of National Security in late 2022.
A statistical comparison published by the Hebrew website "Walla" showed a large gap in mortality rates. While prisons recorded the death of 178 prisoners during 40 years (1967-2007), the number rose to 110 martyrs during the last three years under Ben Gvir's administration, indicating a serious deterioration in the conditions of prisoners.
The vast majority of the martyrs are from the Gaza Strip, and they were martyred during the Israeli war on the Strip, where they were arrested and placed in extremely harsh conditions, according to the report.
The year 2023 witnessed the martyrdom of 32 prisoners, and the number rose in 2024 to reach 47 martyrs, while the year 2025 has so far recorded the martyrdom of 31 prisoners. This increase in numbers reflects a policy of medical neglect and systematic restrictions on prisoners.
This increase coincides with repeated statements by Ben Gvir calling for tightening the noose on Palestinian prisoners, which increases concerns about their fate under these harsh conditions.
The prisons have turned into a slow execution ground for Palestinian prisoners.
