Palestinian sources in the Gaza Strip reported that elements of militias and clans began surrendering themselves to Hamas during the past twenty-four hours, following the assassination of Yasser Abu Shabab.
This measure comes after Hamas gave the elements of these armed militias a deadline of ten days to surrender themselves.
In preparation for this development, one of the leaders of the Union of Clans in the Gaza Strip announced his explicit support for Hamas.
In his statements, he confirmed that "the tribes are very concerned about the militias funded by Tel Aviv, and that these militias will disappear no matter how much Israel tries to support them.
He explained that the goal of the existence of these militias is to locate tunnels and Hamas fighters, that is, to carry out the tasks that Israel has been unable to carry out for two years.
In a related context, Hussam Al-Asatl, a leader of one of the militias in Khan Yunis, who was working in constant coordination with Yasser Abu Shabab, stated that Abu Shabab's death will not affect the militias' operations in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Asatl indicated that Abu Shabab's former deputy and successor, Ghassan Al-Duhaini, intends to continue his path, and he is closely involved in the military affairs of the militia. Al-Asatl added: "Hamas is trying to send elements to infiltrate us, but we will expose them soon."
Meanwhile, sources reported that Yasser Abu Shabab was killed in Rafah during a violent quarrel in which he was beaten and kicked by members of his militia and armed security guards who were constantly accompanying him.
In contrast, some reports indicated that the clan itself was linked to Hamas, and that the movement was involved in his death.
