The efforts of Qatari, Egyptian, and Turkish mediation finally succeeded in "Sharm El Sheikh" in overcoming obstacles and resolving disputes between Hamas and Israel, leading both parties to the conclusion that Gazans and Palestinians had been waiting for: the cessation of the devastating war that claimed tens of thousands of innocent lives and erased some Gazan families from the civil registry.
Thus, it is a success for the mediation with all its components from the mentioned countries, but Netanyahu wants to leap over that and attribute all success to himself and his invincible heroic army, even though he has been unable to uproot Hamas in two full years despite his advanced military arsenal and the support that is evident to anyone following the war.
Trump advised his friend Netanyahu that the proposed plan provides a safe exit for him from a war that shows no signs of victory, and that he cannot confront a world that has realized that the Israeli war on Gaza has exhausted its justifications and turned into a senseless war and a genocide that cannot be accepted or ignored.
Britain, Israel's historical ally, has washed its hands of it and announced its recognition of the Palestinian state, and many countries around the world have followed suit. This global stance represents a tidal wave that Netanyahu cannot withstand or confront, and it would be better for him to stop to save face and prevent the expansion of international rejection that harms Israel and its future.
The far-right extremists Smotrich and Ben Gvir tried to influence Netanyahu's government to deter it from what they called the "humiliating deal" with Hamas and threatened to dismantle this government if Netanyahu could not dismantle Hamas. However, in the end, the Zionist government had no choice but to approve the plan and prepare to implement the first phase's provisions, which include the Israeli withdrawal to the yellow line in preparation for starting the prisoner exchange process with Hamas.
What happened in Sharm El Sheikh and before that in Doha is a victory for mediation efforts and for the will to prioritize the option of peace over the option of war and to avoid the greater humanitarian catastrophe in the event of continued war, and not a victory for Netanyahu, who shamelessly stated to Hebrew and foreign media that the Israeli government agreed to the outcomes of the Sharm El Sheikh meeting because Israel had achieved its goals.
Netanyahu sees the war on Gaza as a legitimate war and a response to what happened on October 7, 2023, and that Hamas is the aggressor, forgetting that what he calls "the victory for the injustice of October 7" is a natural result of a historical injustice that extends through the ages and is not born from October 7, 2023.
It is strange for thieves to violate the sanctity of homes and terrorize their inhabitants, then appear before the world as the oppressed and attacked.
The guilt for what occurred on October 7 lies with the Israeli occupation; the occupation is a sufficient justification for any act that all rational people interpret as legitimate defense to recover a usurped right and land and to liberate an oppressed people that the Israeli occupation seeks to expel from their homeland and turn into refugees within their own land.
I scrutinized the slogans raised by the jubilant Israelis upon reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of prisoners, whether those written in English or even those written in Hebrew, based on the fact that I am one of those whom God has blessed with studying Hebrew at Prince Abdul Qadir University with a group of my colleagues from the first batch. I found no praise or reference in the raised slogans to the "imaginary achievements" that Netanyahu speaks of, which indicates that he is out of touch with the Israeli street.
Smotrich and Ben Gvir were not seen - as reported by Israeli media - with the psychological gloom that appeared on them after the announcement of reaching a ceasefire agreement, and I believe that this psychological state that caused a psychological shock for Smotrich and Ben Gvir will have repercussions, leading to an expected resignation from the government starting with them.
Netanyahu boasts that the first fruits of the war on Gaza are the release of "Israeli prisoners," claiming it is the fulfillment of a promise he made to their families and the Israeli people, while everyone, whether involved in military affairs or not, agrees that this operation is the result of negotiations and not the result of military operations.
So what victory is Netanyahu talking about? It is a major fallacy, a distortion of reality, and a misrepresentation of facts.
The agreement reached between Hamas and Israel to stop the war is the fruit of significant and arduous efforts made in Qatar, which bore fruit and blossomed in Sharm El Sheikh, so all greetings to Qatar and its partners in mediation, and all hope that the agreement continues and
