Haaretz: Two years of the Gaza war without a goal, and Israel is drowning in isolation and on the verge

The Hebrew newspaper "Haaretz" stated that Israel is drowning in isolation and is dying, after waging a war on the Gaza Strip without objectives for two years.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas surprised Tel Aviv with an unprecedented attack on dozens of military bases, towns, and settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip, resulting in the death, injury, and capture of hundreds of Israelis.

Israeli analysts believe that the attack constituted the largest security breach in the country's history, while Tel Aviv has continued since October 8, 2023, to commit genocide against Palestinians inside the besieged strip, leading to one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.

The newspaper said: "Two years have passed since the worst security disaster in Israel's history, yet those responsible for it are still clinging to power."

It confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "the only major official who has not yet taken responsibility, nor has he even begged for forgiveness."

It continued: "The war (genocide) has continued aimlessly for two years, the hostages (prisoners in Gaza) have been left behind, and Israel has sunk into diplomatic, economic, and moral isolation, with the government’s hands stained with the blood of tens of thousands of Gaza's residents (Palestinians)."

Speaking about isolation, "Haaretz" stated that "Israelis fear traveling abroad, and the country, its institutions, and its social fabric are in advanced stages of disintegration."

The Israeli newspaper addressed former U.S. President Donald Trump's plan regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

It confirmed that Tel Aviv "has now become beholden to the whims of the American president; if he wants to end the war, return the hostages, and save Israel from itself, that would be much better."

It continued: "If (Trump) grows weary and decides to let it continue failing under (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu, that will happen too."

On September 29, Trump announced a plan consisting of 20 points, including: the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas.

Regarding the reality of Israel after two years of genocide, "Haaretz" stated that "the country is dying, and the survival of the government reflects how accustomed Israelis have become to the lie that Netanyahu's corrupt leadership is actually the best available leadership."

It also called for "ending the war, returning the hostages to their homes, and liberating Israel from the punishment of the worst government in its history."

Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli hostages in Gaza, of whom 20 are alive, while around 11,100 Palestinians are imprisoned in its jails, suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, with many having died, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, resulting in 67,173 deaths, and 169,780 injuries, most of whom are children and women, and a famine that has claimed the lives of 460 Palestinians, including 154 children.
