Ben Gvir threatens to withdraw from the government if Hamas remains after the prisoner deal.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir threatened on Saturday to withdraw from the government if the Hamas movement continues to exist after the anticipated prisoner exchange deal is implemented, according to U.S. President Donald Trump's plan for ending the war in the Gaza Strip.

This came a day after Hamas announced its intention to proceed with the U.S. President's plan aimed at reaching a deal that includes a ceasefire and mutual release of prisoners, which the latter welcomed.

The private Hebrew Channel "12" reported Ben Gvir as saying: "In light of recent developments, I and the 'Otzma Yehudit' (Jewish Power) party bloc have clearly informed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that if the Hamas organization continues to exist after the release of all detainees, we will no longer be part of the government."

The extremist Israeli minister claimed: "We will not be partners in a national defeat that will remain a stain forever, and it could turn into a ticking time bomb for the next massacre."

Ben Gvir's threat comes amid sharp disagreements within the Israeli government coalition regarding the U.S. President's plan.

Ben Gvir is considered one of the prominent leaders of the far-right in Israel and opposes any negotiations or agreements that may allow Hamas to remain in the Gaza Strip, demanding the continuation of military operations until the "complete elimination" of the movement.

Earlier today, Egypt announced it would host delegations from Israel and Hamas next Monday to discuss the details of the prisoner exchange according to U.S. President Donald Trump's plan for ending the war in the Gaza Strip.

On September 29, Trump announced a plan consisting of 20 points, including: the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas.

During a press conference with the U.S. President at the White House last Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced "support for Trump's plan," considering it "achieves Israeli objectives from the war."

Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, of whom 20 are alive, while around 11,100 Palestinians are imprisoned in its jails, suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, with many reported dead, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in 67,074 deaths and 169,430 injuries, most of whom are children and women, with famine claiming the lives of 459 Palestinians, including 154 children.
