While Israeli circles have shown enthusiasm for President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza, there have been warnings against it, claiming that if implemented, it would effectively turn the current situation in Gaza into another 'military round' between the occupation and Hamas, as the movement will not be defeated.
Omer Dostry, a former spokesman for the Prime Minister and an expert in military strategy and national security, stated that 'Trump's 21-point plan contradicts almost entirely the principles of ending the war and its objectives set by the government, except for the return of hostages, which is a vital goal in itself, but it is only one of three goals of the war.'
He added in an article published by Maariv that 'if the plan is implemented, Israel will actually be prepared to end the campaign as another 'round', with Hamas remaining in Gaza, no guarantees for its disarmament, the army withdrawing from most of the sector, and agreeing to the possibility of the Palestinian Authority returning to manage it.'
