Poll: 53 percent of Israelis support Trump's plan to end the Gaza war

A poll conducted on Friday showed that 53 percent of Israelis support U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, while 63 percent expressed concern over the growing international recognition of the State of Palestine.

This was according to a survey published by the newspaper "Maariv," conducted by the "Lazar" Institute (private) on a random sample of 502 Israelis with a margin of error of 4.4 percent.

According to the results, 53 percent of Israelis supported Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza, while 17 percent opposed it, and 30 percent reported that they did not know.

On Tuesday evening, Trump presented a 21-point plan to leaders of Arab and Islamic countries on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York, aimed at ending the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip for two years.

While 53 percent of Israelis believed that the war in Gaza should be stopped and focus should be on the return of prisoners, 37 percent said that Tel Aviv should continue its war until "Hamas" is defeated, while 10 percent stated that they had no specific opinion.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza with U.S. support, resulting in 65,502 deaths and 167,376 injuries, most of whom are children and women, and famine that has killed 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.

Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli captives in Gaza, of whom 20 are alive, while around 11,100 Palestinians are imprisoned in its jails suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, with many having died, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.

Additionally, 63 percent of Israelis expressed concern over the growing international recognition of the State of Palestine, compared to 32 percent who said they were not bothered, and 5 percent who reported that they did not know.

A majority of 59 percent of Israelis indicated that they were worried about the possibility of Tel Aviv being excluded from international cultural and sports events, compared to 36 percent who showed no concern, and 5 percent who said they had no specific opinion.

In recent days, 11 countries have recognized the State of Palestine, namely: Britain, Canada, Australia, Portugal, Luxembourg, Belgium, Andorra, France, Malta, Monaco, and San Marino, bringing the total number of recognizers to 159 out of 193 UN member states.

According to the results, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's camp would secure 48 seats in the Knesset if elections were held today, compared to 62 for the opposition camp and 10 for Arab representatives.

The Knesset consists of 120 seats, and forming a government requires the confidence of at least 61 deputies, while elections are not on the horizon due to Netanyahu's refusal to hold elections during the war.
