With a Norwegian initiative and Saudi participation.. An emergency international coalition to financially support the Palestinian Authority.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday the formation of an "Emergency International Coalition" to provide an urgent financial aid package to support the Palestinian Authority in facing its financial crisis, which it described as "urgent and unprecedented."

The coalition includes, in its initial phase, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Britain, Japan, and France, alongside Norway, which led this initiative.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry confirmed in an official statement that this move comes as a necessary response to prevent the collapse of the Palestinian Authority, noting that the coalition's immediate goal is to achieve financial stability for the authority, ensure its continued ability to govern, provide essential services to the Palestinian people, and maintain security stability.

As a practical first step, the Norwegian government announced its contribution of $4 million as part of this emergency package, while the total amount of funding that the coalition seeks to raise from the other participating countries has not yet been disclosed.

The coalition's statement did not limit itself to providing financial support only, but also issued a clear call to the occupying government for the immediate release of the withheld Palestinian clearance funds, which the member states affirmed are a sovereign right of the Palestinian Authority.

These funds, which the occupying authorities collect on behalf of the authority for imported goods, are a vital and primary lifeline for Palestinian budget revenues.

The Palestinian Authority is suffering from a suffocating crisis exacerbated by the occupation's withholding of tax revenues, which has significantly affected its ability to pay salaries to its employees in the public and security sectors and meet its obligations to citizens.

This international initiative is viewed as an attempt to provide a safety net to prevent the deterioration of humanitarian and security conditions in the Palestinian territories and emphasizes the importance of the authority's existence as a fundamental part of any future solution to the conflict.
