The recognition by several major countries, led by France and Britain, of the independent Palestinian state represents an important historical moment in the history of the Palestinian struggle and creates a real hope for achieving actual peace, if these countries fulfill the commitments arising from this step, as analysts say.
In an unprecedented development, many countries have rushed to recognize the State of Palestine in response to the genocide being committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip, and it is expected that small European countries such as Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, and San Marino will join this path, bringing the total number to 11 new countries.
If these countries join their predecessors, the number of countries recognizing Palestine will rise to more than 150 out of 193 member states of the United Nations, according to statistics from the French news agency.
This shift in the international stance cannot be considered a victory in the true sense unless it is accompanied by serious steps.
