An Israeli military analyst said on Thursday that the ground advance in the army's operation is proceeding slowly in the city of Gaza, significantly affected by the pace of Palestinian displacement from the city.
Doron Kadush, an analyst at the Israeli army radio, added that "the attacking divisions 162 and 98 are continuing to advance slowly from two directions."
For weeks, the Israeli army has intensified the bombing of residential towers and buildings in the city, in a policy aimed at forcing Palestinians to flee to areas in the southern Gaza Strip.
Kadush pointed out that "senior military officials refer to this phase as the reconnaissance phase."
He claimed that the army is "advancing gradually during this phase without penetrating deeply," alleging that Hamas fighters holed up in the heart of the city are retreating "without direct confrontation with the forces, as they study movement directions and plan further steps."
Kadush reported that "the scope of ground maneuvering is significantly affected by the pace of population evacuation," noting that the army delayed the entry of the 36th division for several days "due to the slow evacuation process."
He continued: "The 36th division was supposed to enter along with the first two divisions, but due to the slow evacuation, it was decided to postpone its entry, and with the increasing pace of evacuation, its joining is expected in the coming days."
The military analyst mentioned that the operations to displace Palestinians from the city "could have been expedited," pointing out that "sources in the defense establishment criticized the southern command for opening the coastal Rashid road only for evacuation, which caused traffic congestion that hindered the process, before another road was opened yesterday (referring to Salah al-Din Street)."
He claimed that "most of the fighters of the Gaza City Brigade affiliated with Hamas, about two-thirds, fled the city southward," heading to what he called "humanitarian areas in the southern Gaza Strip according to army estimates."
Regarding Hamas fighters, Kadush said that they "rarely roam in open areas; they are fortified, and many of them are underground waiting for Israeli army forces."
The Hebrew newspaper "Jerusalem Post" reported that the Israeli army stated that when the military operation against the city of Gaza began last month, its population exceeded one million, claiming that more than 400,000 people had been displaced after intense bombing targeted dozens of residential towers.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that it "has begun a ground invasion of the city of Gaza," but field evidence and local sources confirm that no ground incursion has occurred.
According to evidence and sources, the army is intensifying its artillery and aerial bombardment and demolitions using explosive robots, to terrorize Palestinians and force them to flee as part of a genocide and displacement war.
The Israeli government acknowledged on August 8 that it approved a plan proposed by Netanyahu to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, starting with the city of Gaza.
The army began its attack on the city on August 11, launching from the Zeitoun neighborhood (southeast), in an operation later dubbed "Gideon's Chariots 2," which included demolishing homes using explosive robots, artillery bombardment, random gunfire, and forced displacement.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 65,141 deaths and 165,925 injuries among Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, and famine that claimed the lives of 432 Palestinians, including 146 children.
The scope of ground maneuvering is significantly affected by the pace of population evacuation.
