The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad, discussed on Tuesday with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio the Israeli attack on Doha last week and the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
The Qatari Amiri Diwan stated in a statement that "the meeting reviewed the strategic relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them, especially in defense areas, in addition to discussing the latest developments in regional and international situations of mutual interest, foremost among them the repercussions of the treacherous Israeli attack on Doha."
The meeting, which took place at the Amiri Diwan in Doha, also addressed "the future of joint diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, secure the release of hostages and prisoners, and reduce escalation in the region," according to the statement.
"Our relations with the United States are strategic, especially at the defense level, and we are determined to defend our sovereignty."
