Canada intends to recognize the State of Palestine on the condition of implementing reforms.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced his country's intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings scheduled for the end of September.

This was stated in a statement issued by Carney's office on Monday following a virtual meeting chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, which also included leaders from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Britain.

During the meeting, Carney expressed his country's solidarity with Qatar in the face of Israeli aggression against Doha, noting that this attack represents a violation of Qatar's sovereignty and increases the risks of escalating tensions in the region.

The Canadian Prime Minister reiterated his country's support for the two-state solution as the appropriate exit to end the Israeli war.

He clarified that Canada's intention to recognize the State of Palestine is conditional on holding general elections in 2026 'without any role for Hamas', along with the implementation of necessary reforms and the disarmament of the Palestinian state to be recognized.

This position comes after several countries, including France, Britain, and Australia, announced their plans to recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly meetings in September.
