The European Parliament condemns the occupation for preventing aid to Gaza.. What about Netanyahu and his ministers?

The European Parliament condemned the occupation's ban on the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, calling for the opening of all border crossings.

The European Parliament voted on a resolution regarding Gaza, with a majority of 305 votes in favor, 151 votes against, and 122 parliamentarians abstaining from voting.

The European Parliament stated in a statement following the vote that it "strongly condemns Israel's prevention of humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip, which has led to famine."

The European Parliament also called for the opening of all border crossings and urged the re-funding of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), expressing its objection to the current aid distribution system.

It also announced its support for the decision of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to suspend "bilateral support for Israel and its efforts to suspend the trade provisions in the EU-Israel partnership agreement."

The European Parliament called for sanctions against the far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, and settlers and Israeli activists who support violence in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The Parliament urged all EU institutions and member states to take diplomatic steps to ensure adherence to the two-state solution, while also calling for "the complete disarmament of Gaza and the exclusion of Hamas from managing the sector" and the re-establishment of a Palestinian Authority as the sole governing body.

The Parliament also encouraged EU countries to execute arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court and emphasized the need for member states to consider recognizing the State of Palestine.

The European Parliament described Israel as a "key partner of the EU in combating regional terrorism" and affirmed its right to self-defense, provided it complies with international law.

The statement claimed that "Israel's right to self-defense" does not justify the "military operations" in Gaza that have caused unbearable suffering for civilians.

It is noted that the joint resolution presented by the Socialist and Democratic groups, "Renew Europe," and the Greens included provisions such as recognition of genocide, an arms embargo on Israel, and the complete suspension of the partnership agreement; however, these provisions were removed from the text due to a lack of consensus.

On Wednesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for "suspending free trade with Israel," and spoke about Europe's "painful inability to respond to the war on Gaza and the ensuing humanitarian disaster."

In her strongest condemnation of the occupation government, von der Leyen criticized the illegal settlement plans that would divide the occupied West Bank in two, as well as the incitement to violence by extremist Israeli ministers, describing it as a "clear attempt to undermine the two-state solution."

She made these remarks during her annual "State of the Union" address before the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where she depicted a troubled world where "lines of combat are being drawn" and "dependencies are being armed ruthlessly."

Von der Leyen also described Europe's inability to agree on a response to Gaza as painful and stated that the EU's executive will freeze its bilateral support for Israel, aside from funds for civil society organizations and the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial center.
