The West Bank.. Israel arrests more than a thousand Palestinians in Tulkarm in one day.

The governor of Tulkarem in the northern occupied West Bank, Abdullah Kmeil, announced on Friday that the Israeli army has arrested more than a thousand Palestinians during the expansion of its aggression on the city since yesterday, which includes a tight siege and raids.

Kmeil stated in a statement that "the occupation army is launching an extensive aggression on Tulkarem, accompanied by arbitrary and unjust mass arrests, which on Thursday targeted more than a thousand citizens, storming homes, destroying their contents, and terrorizing children and women."

He emphasized that "what is happening in the city is part of a systematic policy of the occupation, with this aggression continuing since January 27 of last year, which aims to undermine the resilience and will of our Palestinian people."

The governor issued an urgent call to the international community, the United Nations General Assembly, the Human Rights Council, human rights and humanitarian organizations, and all free people of the world, "to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression against Tulkarem and its people."

He warned of "the seriousness of these crimes and their humanitarian repercussions," demanding that the international community "should bear its moral and legal responsibilities, work urgently to stop these violations, provide protection for our Palestinian people, and hold the occupation accountable for its crimes."

The Israeli army has imposed a tight siege on Tulkarem for the second day, accompanied by a campaign of arrests and field investigations against dozens of young men after storming their homes and searching them.

This came after two Israeli soldiers were lightly injured when an explosive device targeted a military vehicle in the vicinity of the city.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the soldiers were injured "after a Panther military vehicle passed over an explosive device near the contact line at the Nitzani crossing."

Meanwhile, the Israeli army radio stated that its forces imposed a cordon around the Tulkarem area following the explosion.

The Palestinian news agency "Wafa" reported that the Israeli army closed the iron gates at the southern and eastern entrances of Tulkarem, preventing vehicles from passing.

It added that the forces raided commercial shops and cafes in the city center, arresting everyone found inside or in their vehicles, forcing them to walk in long lines towards the street leading to the Khadouri military checkpoint.

The army also seized surveillance camera recordings after storming several shops and deployed more military vehicles and a bulldozer to the city.

In contrast, the "Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades," the military wing of Hamas, in conjunction with the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility for detonating a powerful explosive device against an army vehicle near the "Nitzani Oz" checkpoint west of Tulkarem.

At the beginning of this year, the Israeli army began a wide military operation in the northern occupied West Bank, including Tulkarem.

Alongside the genocide war on the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have killed at least 1,020 Palestinians and injured about 7,000 others, in addition to arresting more than 19,000, according to Palestinian data.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in 64,718 dead and 163,859 injured Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, along with hundreds of thousands of displaced people, and famine that has killed 411 Palestinians, including 142 children.
