The official spokesperson for the Global Fleet of Resilience to Break the Siege on Gaza, Wael Nawar, confirmed the official launch and movement of the fleet on Thursday, except for some ships that are waiting for certain documents, which will also set sail subsequently on Thursday.
Nawar revealed in a special call that the fleet set off early on Thursday, and the departure will continue in the territorial waters for 24 to 48 hours until the storm passes, after which we will head to international waters.
He clarified that the Italian fleet will also depart today, and will be waiting for us in international waters, noting that the reason for not announcing the departure publicly is our inability to operate under pressure with thousands at the port.
For his part, member of the Maghreb Resilience Fleet, Nabil Al-Shanoufi, confirmed the official movement of 16 Spanish ships on Thursday, out of a total of 36 ships in the fleet, with the rest set to move subsequently upon completing the procedures.
Thousands of Tunisians gathered at the port amid intense media coverage to bid farewell to the fleet, but due to difficult weather conditions, a decision was made to delay until Thursday morning.
Al-Shanoufi stated that the main reason for the delay is the change in weather conditions due to rain and winds, and we will set out with about 36 ships, including two or three that are not fully ready to depart, which may join later, with the number of participants ranging between 500 and 700 participants.
He confirmed that the number of boats will increase after meeting with the Italian and Greek boats, and we have been informed that the Egyptian state has allowed an Egyptian ship to depart and granted it a permit.
The fleet set off early on Thursday, and the departure will continue in the territorial waters for 24 to 48 hours.
