7 deaths due to starvation in Gaza in the past few hours

Medical sources announced today, Sunday, the death of 7 citizens due to starvation and malnutrition, recorded by hospitals in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.

The same sources reported that the total number of victims of starvation and malnutrition has risen to 339 martyrs, including 124 children.

They clarified that since the announcement of the famine classification in the Gaza Strip by the (IPC) on August 22 of this month, 61 deaths have been recorded, including 9 children due to starvation.

An international classification on food insecurity, involving the United Nations, confirmed the occurrence of famine in the Gaza governorate and predicted its spread to the Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis governorates by the end of September.

The integrated food security classification stated that more than half a million people in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions, which is the fifth stage of the classification, characterized by severe hunger, death, deprivation, and extremely critical levels of acute malnutrition.

The classification mentioned that 1.07 million other people (54% of the population) are facing the fourth stage, which is the acute food insecurity 'emergency' stage.

396,000 people (20% of the population) are facing the third stage, which is the acute food insecurity 'crisis' stage.

The integrated food security classification is a global initiative that includes agencies from the United Nations, regional partners, and relief organizations, and it classifies food insecurity into five stages, the most severe being famine, which is ranked fifth.
