The financial siege imposed on the Palestinian Authority is intensifying, as the occupation continues to pirate Palestinian tax funds, with a lack of Arab and international financial support, and a scarcity of internal resources. After the long months that have passed, the treasury is empty, and the government is unable to meet some of its obligations, foremost among them the percentage it used to pay to employees from their salaries during the past months.
The financial bankruptcy that the Palestinian government is suffering from comes after it has reached the maximum borrowing limit from banks and has exhausted all savings from both pension and non-pension funds. This is caused by the occupation and the deliberate piracy policies led by the occupation's Finance Minister Smotrich, who is in complete agreement with his Prime Minister Netanyahu, openly declaring that the goal is to dismantle the Palestinian Authority. This is what they are striving for, and it seems that this matter does not face opposition from the U.S., which sees what is happening and does not object or show any intervention to resolve the issue.
The government has no solutions, and it is rightly said that governments without solutions should resign and leave their place for others to lead. However, under the current reality, the resignation of the government is not the solution, as the solution lies in lifting the Arab and international financial siege and stopping the piracy and theft operations carried out by the occupation government. This requires direct intervention from the U.S. and the European Union and activating the Arab financial safety net. Without this, this government or any other will not be able to solve the suffocating financial crisis that threatens numerous consequences.
The difficult economic reality warns of even tougher days ahead, and this financial collapse is caused by the political deadlock, the disruption of settlements, and the continuation of the genocide. Repairing and rebuilding this reality requires serious and decisive international will, especially from the U.S., which has the ability to impose a solution, halt the plans of the extreme Israeli right, and impose a comprehensive vision based on Palestinian rights. This is what can save the reality from the ongoing deterioration, and it is not related to the incapable, bankrupt, and faltering government.
