The conference "Gaza: An Islamic and Human Responsibility" launched in Istanbul with the participation of dozens of scholars and thinkers from around the world, who considered what is happening in the Gaza Strip not just a war, but "the most dangerous disaster in modern history." This was stated in the opening statement presented in three languages, reflecting the humanitarian and global dimension of the Palestinian issue.
The Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Ali Mohiuddin Al-Qaradaghi, delivered the statement in Arabic, while the head of Turkey's Religious Affairs, Ali Erbaş, presented it in Turkish, and the director of the International Jerusalem Foundation, Ayman Zidan, delivered it in English. The attendees emphasized the necessity of confronting what they described as "genocide" faced by more than two and a half million people in Gaza.
The statement warned that the Israeli project extends beyond the borders of Gaza, targeting "the swallowing of more Arab and Islamic lands" under the banner of "Greater Israel." The conference affirmed that the responsibility to confront these policies does not rest solely on the Palestinians, but on the entire Islamic world.
The conference, organized by the International Union of Muslim Scholars and the Scholars of Islam Foundation in Turkey, attracted nearly a hundred senior religious scholars from fifty countries. Eighteen workshops are scheduled to discuss issues related to halting aggression and opening humanitarian corridors.
The conference activities began in front of the mosque of the companion Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari, where participants intend to form delegations to visit leaders and heads of Islamic and international states, aiming to pressure for the conference's objectives, including stopping attacks and breaking the siege.
The conference will conclude its activities on August 29 of this month, with a final statement announced from in front of the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque after Friday prayers. This step aims to send a strong message from the heart of Istanbul to the world that Gaza is not alone, and that the responsibility to protect it and support its people is a religious, moral, and humanitarian duty.
Muslims and all of humanity are facing a historic test regarding what they described as genocide.
