An Israeli general presents three false assumptions for dealing with Gaza.

An article published on the Hebrew site 'Walla' discussed the strategies of the occupation in Gaza by Giora Eiland, the former head of the National Security Council of the occupation. Eiland, who is associated with the plan to evacuate northern Gaza, has recently begun to call for a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas to save soldiers and prevent the killing of Palestinian civilians.

Eiland pointed out that the government chose failure over victory, as he faced coordinated attacks on several television channels after criticizing the military operation 'Gideon's Chariots,' which he considered a military failure and a political collapse.

The strategy of the government and the army since October 8, 2023, has been based on three assumptions, all of which are incorrect. The first assumption is that military pressure alone is sufficient to achieve success, even though it leads to the killing of Palestinians and the destruction of infrastructure without compelling Hamas's leadership to surrender.

The second assumption was that occupying land in Gaza would exert pressure on Hamas, which historical experiences have proven always leads to violent attacks from hostile populations, especially given the high population density and the existence of tunnels underground.

The third assumption related to the possibility of separating Palestinians from Hamas, as the government believed that Hamas could be isolated by establishing food distribution centers in the south, which has proven to be ineffective.

Eiland confirmed that since the first week of the war, he recognized the error of these assumptions, noting that the population of Gaza was only 300,000, and that one million people were forced to leave, which was an opportunity to change the course of the war.

Eiland proposed shifting the Netzarim axis to the temporary southern border with the Gaza Strip and issuing an ultimatum to Hamas regarding a comprehensive prisoner deal, but this idea was rejected by the government and the army.

The rejection of the generals' plan led to catastrophic results, with hundreds of soldiers killed and injured in unnecessary battles in areas such as Beit Hanoun, Shuja'iyya, and Jabalia.
