The Hind Rajab Foundation and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights have filed a joint lawsuit before the International Criminal Court, accusing senior military and political leaders in the Israeli occupation of issuing orders to assassinate journalist Anas Al-Sharif, in addition to five other Palestinian journalists in the besieged Gaza Strip. This lawsuit comes as part of legal efforts aimed at holding the occupation accountable for its ongoing violations.
The lawsuit includes detailed information about the chain of command and decisions that led to Al-Sharif's assassination, as he was targeted outside Al-Shifa Hospital, a place known for his presence as a journalist. This incident has been documented as part of a broader pattern of targeting journalists in Gaza, where they are labeled as terrorists before being eliminated.
The evidence presented in the lawsuit is based on a documented pattern of assaults on journalists, where their reputations are tarnished by occupation officials before raids are carried out. Previous assassination cases of journalists such as Hussam Shabat and Ismail Al-Ghul have been reviewed, reflecting a systematic strategy to target media personnel.
The investigations follow the strike that targeted Al-Sharif, starting from the surveillance of a drone camera, where a chain of responsibility has been identified that includes prominent military leaders in the occupation army. Among them are Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, Major General Tomer Bar, Major General Yaniv Asor, in addition to Colonel Avichai Adraee, who has been accused of leading a smear campaign against Al-Sharif.
On the political front, Prime Minister of the occupation Benjamin Netanyahu has been mentioned, who is accused of supporting a strategy to eliminate journalists as part of the ongoing aggression against Gaza. It has been revealed that this strategy includes prior smear campaigns targeting journalists before carrying out assassination operations.
The lawsuit before the International Criminal Court accuses the mentioned individuals of committing war crimes, including premeditated murder and genocide, and demands the issuance of arrest warrants against the mentioned officials. It also calls for expanding Netanyahu's arrest warrant to include crimes against journalists.
The head of the Hind Rajab Foundation, Diab Abu Jahjah, confirmed that this lawsuit is not merely a symbolic action, but reflects the atrocity of Anas Al-Sharif's assassination and the occupation's contempt for human life. He emphasizes that this case must be legally addressed and not go unpunished.
The assassination of Anas Al-Sharif was outrageous, arrogant, and saturated with contempt for human life.
