Marco Rubio: There Will Be No Peace in Gaza as Long as Hamas Exists
There will never be peace in Gaza as long as Hamas exists.
In an interview with EWTN, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Tel Aviv determines what must be done to ensure its security, noting that there will be no peace in Gaza as long as Hamas exists. He considered the presence of the movement a constant threat to peace due to its desire to destroy the occupying state and expel every Jew from the Middle East.
Rubio added that addressing the situation in Gaza must go beyond the humanitarian aspect, as the issue of the hostages held by Hamas must be addressed. He also accused the movement of trying to win a global public relations war, emphasizing its unwillingness to make any concessions for peace.
Regarding the recognition of the Palestinian state, Rubio considered that talks with Hamas collapsed after the French president's unilateral recognition of the State of Palestine, which encouraged the movement and made achieving peace more difficult. He affirmed that he agrees with the occupying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that recognizing the Palestinian state is a reward for Hamas.
Rubio also expressed doubts about the possibility of establishing a real Palestinian state, pointing out the inability to define its borders or who would govern it. He confirmed that there cannot be a state or even an autonomous region unless it is determined who will govern it.
