Human Rights Watch: The occupation carried out "illegal" attacks on schools in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of displaced people.

The organization "Human Rights Watch" accused the occupying army in a new report of carrying out repeated and illegal attacks on schools sheltering displaced persons in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians.

The international human rights organization described these attacks in its report released today, Thursday, as indiscriminate and potentially amounting to war crimes, noting that the occupying forces used American munitions in many of them and executed "double strikes" to maximize casualties among civilians and rescue teams.

Human Rights Watch confirmed that the occupation's attack on schools, which have turned into shelters for displaced persons fleeing the bombardment, is an act "illegal regardless of any justification."

The organization documented the targeting of more than 500 schools directly or indirectly throughout the sector, reflecting a pattern of blatant disregard for civilian lives.

The organization stated that schools enjoy special protection under international humanitarian law, and that converting them into military targets in such a systematic manner constitutes a serious violation.

The report quoted rights groups affiliated with the occupation saying that the occupying army carried out what is known as "double strikes," where a site is bombed once, and then bombed again after rescuers and medics gather, with the aim of deliberately targeting them.

The organization added that this brutal tactic not only aims to increase the number of victims but also cripples the ability of rescue and civil defense teams to perform their humanitarian duties in saving lives.

One of the most notable revelations of the report is the documentation of the use of American munitions in the attacks on schools, placing the United States in a position of complicity in these violations.

The organization called on the U.S. administration to immediately halt the transfer of weapons to the occupation that are used to commit war crimes.

Human Rights Watch called for an independent international investigation and accountability for those responsible within the occupying entity for these attacks, emphasizing that impunity is what encourages the continued commission of these atrocities against Palestinian civilians.
