"The Red Cross": Opportunities to Save Lives in Gaza Diminish Day by Day
Opportunities to save lives are diminishing day by day, and urgent action must be taken to end the suffering.
The International Committee of the Red Cross warned on Tuesday of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, noting that opportunities to save lives are rapidly diminishing as the escalation and blockade on the territory continue. The international organization called for the swift and unhindered flow of essential humanitarian aid to the civilian population suffering from severe shortages of food and medicine.
The committee explained that there is readiness to expand aid delivery operations safely, emphasizing the need to facilitate their passage immediately and sustainably. It confirmed that the acute shortage of food supplies is increasing day by day, and time is running out to save lives before it is too late. The organization stated that "the window of opportunity to save lives in Gaza is diminishing day by day, and urgent action must be taken now."
In another context, Israel has begun implementing a plan to distribute aid through an entity called the "Gaza Humanitarian Relief Foundation," supported by the Israeli occupation and the United States, which the United Nations rejects. Since the start of this mechanism, the toll of Palestinian martyrs has risen to 1,568, with more than 11,230 injured, due to daily gunfire on those waiting for aid, according to data from the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
The International Committee emphasized the necessity of reaching an agreement between Israel and Hamas for a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire, asserting that the only solution to end the suffering of prisoners and their families, in addition to millions of residents in Gaza, is to reach a sustainable agreement among the concerned parties. It confirmed its readiness to facilitate the delivery of medicines and food, and to convey information about Israeli prisoners held in Gaza to their families.
The committee organizes the transfer of released prisoners by Hamas and Israel, and coordinates regularly with the concerned parties to ensure the safety of the operations. In another context, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the number of martyrs since the beginning of the aggression has risen to 188, including 94 children, in addition to hundreds of wounded, due to the blockade and systematic starvation that Gaza has been subjected to since October 7, 2023.
International organizations and Palestinian authorities accuse the Israeli occupation, with American support, of genocidal policies in Gaza, which include killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring international calls and legal orders to stop these crimes. These policies have left more than 211,000 Palestinians dead or injured, with thousands missing and displaced, in addition to a famine that has claimed the lives of many civilians, especially children and women.
