Israeli Writer Describes the War on Gaza as Genocide and Supports the Two-State Solution
Now I can no longer stop myself from using the term genocide after what I have seen and read
Israeli writer David Grossman described the war that Israel is waging on the Gaza Strip as "genocide," expressing his acknowledgment of what is happening there after previously refusing to use this term. Grossman stated in an interview published on Friday in the Italian newspaper "La Repubblica" that he can no longer deny the truth, referring to the images and news he has seen, in addition to his conversations with people who were in Gaza.
Grossman confirmed that what is happening is genocide, expressing his deep sorrow and intense pain for the tragedies he sees in the strip. He explained that this description reflects the magnitude of the humanitarian disaster that is worsening day by day, and that the international community must act quickly to stop these massacres.
In another context, Grossman renewed his support for the two-state solution, considering it the only viable option for the international community to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He praised French President Emmanuel Macron's determination to recognize a Palestinian state next September, expressing his astonishment at the "hysterical" reaction that this stance received in Israel.
Grossman stated that the recognition of a Palestinian state should be conditional on the absence of weapons and ensuring transparent elections, excluding any party that considers using violence against Israel. He noted that France and 14 other countries, including Canada and Australia, have called for announcing their intention to recognize the state of Palestine, and that the Portuguese government will consult with parliament and the president on this matter next September.
In a related context, France and Saudi Arabia held parallel meetings in Paris and New York to prepare for the two-state solution conference scheduled to be hosted by the United Nations from June 17 to 20. This comes amid rising international calls to end the occupation and achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
In a notable development, the British newspaper "The Guardian" published a report last Tuesday, in which more than 400 researchers in genocide studies accused Israel of carrying out systematic genocide in the Gaza Strip. The report criticized the Western silence and the moral complicity of institutions that claim to defend human rights, calling for immediate action to stop the fire, ban arms sales to Israel, and protect the concept of international justice.
