The Al-Butum people's gathering in Masafer Yatta faces the risk of forced displacement

Amnesty International said that the Al-Butam community in Masafer Yatta is facing imminent forced displacement as a result of increasing attacks by settlers supported by the Israeli occupation state.

In a statement on Thursday, it referred to the house demolitions, harassment and restrictions on access to land, and the illegal colonial expansion carried out by the occupation authorities.

According to the statement, this pastoral community, which includes about 300 residents, is one of 12 communities that together make up the Masafer Yatta area south of Hebron, which has suffered for decades from state-backed settler attacks and repressive measures by the Israeli authorities.

“The plight of the Al-Butum community is a microcosm of what Palestinians, particularly herding and Bedouin communities, face across much of the occupied West Bank, where settlers invade their land, destroy and steal their property, and harass and physically assault them, with complete impunity,” said Erika Guevara-Rosas, Amnesty International’s Research, Advocacy and Policy Director.
