Netanyahu holds crucial security consultations amid government split over prisoner deal

Channel 12 reported that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will hold consultations with the heads of the security services within the next hour to discuss developments in the prisoner exchange deal.

According to Israeli occupation law, any deal related to prisoners requires government approval.

Reports indicate that the deal has a slim majority within the political-security cabinet, especially if ministers from the Otzma Yehudit and Religious Zionism parties decide to vote against it.

Within the expanded government, the majority in favor of the deal appears more pronounced, thanks to the support of ministers from the Shas and United Torah Judaism parties.

Despite opposition from some Likud members, overall support remains high.

As for the Knesset, the vote on the deal itself does not require parliamentary approval, but its political ramifications could be decisive.

The deal could lead some of its opponents to withdraw from the ruling coalition, threatening to disintegrate the current Knesset and raising questions about the government's continuity.

This political division reflects the challenges facing Netanyahu's government in making major strategic decisions, in light of the complexities of the security and political scene within the occupying state.
