Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed on Tuesday that there is no change in the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Netanyahu said, “Policy-making on the Temple Mount is directly under the government and its prime minister, and there is no special policy for any minister on the Temple Mount, neither for the Minister of National Security nor for any other minister. This has always been the case in all Israeli governments.”
He added: The event that took place this morning at the Al-Aqsa Mosque constitutes a breach of the status quo, and Israel's policy regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque has not changed, and will not change.
This came in response to statements made by extremist Minister Itamar Ben Gvir when he stormed Al-Aqsa, in which he said that he had begun allowing Jews to pray freely in Al-Aqsa.
In response to Netanyahu's statements, Ben-Gvir's office reiterated: The policy of the Minister of National Security is to allow freedom of worship for Jews everywhere, including on the Temple Mount, and Jews will continue to do so in the future as well.. The Temple Mount is a sovereign area in the capital of Israel.
