Reuters: Türkiye has been blocking NATO-Israel cooperation since October

Informed sources told Reuters that Turkey has been preventing cooperation between Israel and NATO since last October, due to the war in the Gaza Strip.

During this period, Türkiye maintained its position that the alliance should not cooperate with Israel as a partner until the war ended.

Israel enjoys NATO partner status and maintains close ties with the military alliance and some of its members, particularly its largest ally, the United States.

Ankara has been highly critical of Israel's operations in the Gaza Strip, saying they amount to genocide, and has halted all trade with it, while criticising several Western allies for their support for Israel.

The sources said that Turkey has objected to all NATO dealings with Israel since last October, including joint meetings and exercises, considering that Israel's slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza constitutes a violation of NATO's founding principles.

The sources said that Turkey will continue to implement this ban, and will not allow Israel to continue or enhance its interaction with NATO until the conflict ends, because it believes that Israel's actions in Gaza violate international law and universal human rights.

After the NATO summit in Washington last July, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said it was not possible for the alliance to continue its partnership with the Israeli government.

Earlier this week, Israel's foreign minister urged the alliance to expel Turkey after Erdogan appeared to threaten to invade Israel, as he has done in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh in the past.
