An Egyptian source denies the existence of an “Egyptian-Israeli” agreement to reopen the Rafah crossing

A high-ranking Egyptian source said on Friday that there is no truth to what some media reported about the existence of an Egyptian-Israeli agreement regarding the reopening of the Rafah crossing.

The Egyptian source confirmed to Al-Ghad TV channel that Cairo is committed to the complete Israeli withdrawal from the Rafah crossing as a condition for resuming its work.

Sources reported that a delegation from US intelligence and the Israeli occupation will visit Cairo next Saturday to fully discuss the occupation’s withdrawal from the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side.

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said on Thursday that the Israeli Defense Minister spoke last night with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

The newspaper indicated that the two ministers discussed the need to reopen the Rafah crossing for humanitarian aid heading to the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Defense Minister stressed to Austin that Israel does not oppose opening the crossing, but will not agree to transfer responsibility for it to Hamas members or elements associated with it.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Israeli army announced that it had achieved full operational control over the Philadelphia axis between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
