Spain Championship: Lewandowski suspended for three matches for "gesturing towards the referee"

(AFP) - Polish striker Robert Lewandowski suspended Barcelona striker for three matches in the Spanish Football League after he showed "disrespect" to the referee, and the penalty will take effect when the season resumes after the end of the Qatar World Cup 2022.
The striker was sent off after receiving two yellow cards during the win over Osasuna on November 8 for making a gesture by touching his nose as he left the pitch, which was seen as an offense to referee Jesus Gil Manzano.
The RFEF said in a statement on Wednesday that in addition to the automatic one-match suspension, the striker was imposed two more matches for showing "an attitude of contempt or disrespect" towards the referee.
Lewandowski, the league's top scorer with 13 goals, is set to miss the Catalan derby against Espanyol and the Atletico Madrid and Real Betis matches.
And Lewandowski commented last week at his European Golden Boot award ceremony for his previous season with Bayern Munich, "This is funny, because the gesture was for Xavi (his coach) and not for the referee."
"Last week, I think, we already talked about being careful if I'm given a yellow card, because something like that can happen, and in the end it did. It's my fault, I received two yellow cards, but the gesture was towards (Xavi). ".
And the Catalan club announced in a statement later on Wednesday that it would “raise the matter to the Appeal Committee” of the Spanish Federation.
Barcelona came back from behind to win the match 2-1 and move two points ahead of Real Madrid, the defending champions, who are in the lead after 14 matches.

June 17, the anniversary of the execution of Muhammad Jamjoom, Fouad Hegazy and Atta Al-Zir

The Bosphorus Strait loses its fish due to pollution and ship traffic

Istanbul - (AFP) - Fishermen on the banks of the Bosphorus Strait put down their fishing rods and crossed their hands, with frustration evident on their faces as they looked at a fishing boat hauling its huge nets in the water with a large winch.

“Come on, get out of here!” one of them shouts, as he waits impatiently for the boat to depart so that he can once again practice fishing in the Bosphorus waters.

"I've been here since six in the morning, but this boat threw its fishing net in front of us, which prevented us from carrying out our activities," said Mehmet Dogan, who only caught one 40-centimetre bonito fish.

This period is the season for bonito fish, one of the famous types of tuna, in the waters of the Bosphorus.

Ships cast nets of more than 1,000 meters across the strait, limiting the opportunity for amateur fishermen like Muhammad to catch fish.

"This place is the entry path for fish that will not have enough time just to lay their eggs," says Murat Ayhanoglu from Kirchburnu Bay, where a ship docks from which the sound of its crew can be heard pulling the heavy fishing net.

"When these ships are here, it is certain that we will catch very little," the man in his fifties adds with displeasure, pointing to fish species that are witnessing a decline in their numbers and becoming rare, such as shakhura, anchovies, bonito and blue fish. He stresses that "the authorities must find a solution to this issue."

Saadat Karakulak, a professor at the Faculty of Aquatic Sciences in Istanbul, points out that the volume of fishing in the Bosphorus decreased over a few years from about 500 or 600 thousand tons annually to 328 thousand tons, which constitutes "evidence of a decrease in the number of fish."

As for the authorities, they resorted to a strange idea, proposing at the beginning of the month to close the Bosphorus to traffic for half a day, with the aim of allocating its waters to fishing vessels and industrial ones.

The Ministry of Transport reversed its decision after protests from scientists and NGOs denouncing what it called a "fishing race in a vital corridor" of great importance.

Bayram Ozturk, director of the Department of Marine Biology at Istanbul University and the TODAF Foundation, which specializes in marine research, sneers, saying, "On November 6, killing was permitted."

"This cannot be done now, as the numbers of fish are in danger, and some of them have touched very low levels, such as sturgeon and swordfish," he added, adding, "We should think about how to preserve and sustain them."

He considers that the time has come to restrict the fishing of certain types of fish to certain proportions.

This year, anchovies are in danger because the bonito, which is present in large quantities, is feeding on them. Ozturk explains that the high bonito numbers are attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the fishermen were quarantined.

He points to other threats to fish, including plastic waste, urban pollution and heavy marine traffic.

The Bosporus is one of the most active straits in the world, with more than two hundred cargo ships and tankers passing through it daily from the Caspian Sea, in addition to dry bulk carriers such as those carrying grain from Ukraine.

Ozturk explains that "the width of the strait at its narrowest point does not exceed 760 meters," calling for "management of the situation at the regional level, as the fish spawns on the Ukrainian side and swims towards Turkey and the Mediterranean," and is eaten in Greece.

Serkan Karadeniz, whose boat is anchored in the port, is waiting for the bay to be emptied of ships to start fishing. And the captain followed the bonito from the Black Sea.

Karadeniz, who comes from Samsun on the Black Sea (north), resides in Canakkale, which borders the Aegean Sea.

The fisherman, who switched this year to bonito fishing while he usually fished anchovies, notes that "the competition is strong, with more than 300 fishing vessels."

Erdogan Kartal, 60, explains that "the months of October and November record a large migration towards the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean," noting that he has been fishing since his childhood. And being the head of a guild that includes 34 entities, he deals with two thousand fishermen.

"The fish have decreased in size and are getting smaller and smaller," he says. "We catch fish that haven't spawned yet, which is dangerous."

"We no longer see the beautiful mackerel that existed in the past," he continues.

In his opinion, restrictions should be placed on catching certain sizes of fish and determining the numbers that are allowed to be caught. "We have to make some sacrifices, and if we let the fish pass, it will return," he says.

Qatar seeks to enter history when it faces Ecuador at the opening of the World Cup tomorrow

Doha - "Jerusalem" dot com - Qatar's national team will open tomorrow evening, Sunday, its campaign in the World Cup, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East and the Arab world, when it will face Ecuador .

The meeting will take place at six o'clock in the evening, Palestine time, and will be held at Al-Bayt Stadium in the northern city of Al-Khor, and it is one of the six stadiums that will host the championship matches.

FIFA decided to appoint Italian Daniele Orsato to officially manage the first matches of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Annabi team is seeking to avoid the scenario of South Africa, which hosted the tournament in 2010, as it was the only host country that was deposited from the group stage.

Although it ranked third in South America, Ecuador ranks 44th in the FIFA rankings, only six places higher than Qatar.

Twelve years after it was granted the right to host the 2022 World Cup in football, the hour of truth has come for Qatar, which raises the curtain on Sunday for the first World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world.

The tournament, which is held once every four years, opens with the host Qatar, participating for the first time, against Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium at 7:00 pm local time (16:00 GMT).

Qatar, which is home to about 3 million people, 90% of whom are foreigners, expects more than a million fans to come to the country during the World Cup over the course of the 29-day tournament.

The tournament hosts six stadiums with a capacity of about forty thousand spectators, which are Khalifa, 974 (formerly Ras Bu Abboud), Ahmed bin Ali (Al-Rayyan), Al-Janoub (formerly Al-Wakra), Al-Thumama and Education City, in exchange for sixty thousand spectators for Al-Bayt Stadium and more than eighty thousand for Lusail Stadium, which It will host the final match on December 18, Qatar National Day, and is expected to be watched by a billion spectators around the world.

Unlike the previous editions of the World Cup, which began in 1930 in Uruguay, the competition moved from the summer to the onset of winter, due to the summer temperatures in the Gulf, which aroused the ire of the major European championships, which forced them to freeze their competitions for at least a month.

Tens of millions of children are at risk for not receiving the measles vaccine

Washington - (AFP) - Immunization against measles, a potentially fatal disease, has been declining worldwide since the COVID-19 pandemic, putting tens of millions of children at risk, an international report warns.

"For three years we have been sounding the alarm about declining vaccination rates and increasing risks to children's health around the world," Ephrem Tekle Limangu, in charge of vaccination programs at the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), said in a statement.

"We have a narrow window to make up for" missed vaccination doses, he added.

In turn, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, "immunization programs have been seriously affected."

"Behind every statistic in this report is a child at risk of contracting a preventable disease," he added.

According to the joint report issued by the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2021, about 40 million children missed a dose of the measles vaccine (25 million missed the first dose and 14.7 million missed the second dose).

As a result, global coverage of first-dose measles vaccination has fallen to its lowest level since 2008.

Among the countries with the largest number of unvaccinated children against measles are Nigeria, India, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia and Indonesia.

According to the report, it is estimated that the number of people infected with measles in 2021 reached nine million, of whom 128,000 died.
Last year, measles outbreaks spread to 22 countries, most of them in the Middle East and Africa.

In April, the World Health Organization warned that reported measles cases increased by nearly 80% in the first two months of 2022 compared to the same period last year.

"There is no time to lose," said Elizabeth Cousins, chair of the United Nations Foundation. "We must act urgently to ensure that these life-saving vaccines reach every child."

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that has no cure but can be prevented with two vaccine doses.

Measles causes a high fever and rash, and is contagious over a four-day period before and after symptoms appear.

Although the symptoms of this disease are often benign, they can be dangerous at other times, as they may lead to complications in the respiratory (pneumonia) and nervous (encephalitis) systems, especially in people who suffer from poor health.

The Teachers' Movement announces the continuation of the strike, despite the government's declaration of its commitment to the agreements

The Teachers' Movement announced, Thursday evening, the continuation of the strike and protest activities, and the call for a central sit-in in front of the Council of Ministers in Ramallah next week, despite Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh's announcement of the government's commitment to the agreements signed with the unions that demand their rights and carry out protests.

The Unified Teachers Movement confirmed in a press release that the events previously announced in its statements will be on time, so that next Monday, a central sit-in will be held in front of the Council of Ministers in Ramallah. To confirm the rejection of penalties in all its forms, especially the method of deduction from their salaries, while the “movement” stressed the continuation of the open strike (with going to schools) and leaving after proof of attendance, and without giving any quota for all stages, including the Tawjihi, and the “teachers’ movement” refused to monitor the Employment exam in all provinces.

The movement said: "The government's speech did not bring any qualitative addition to what was presented previously, and it did not contain points that would change the current position of the movement, as it did not refer to the implementation of the detailed provisions of the institutions' initiative that the government signed on last May, and this is what we consider A fundamental defect in the government's speech today, Thursday, as postponing all or part of items kills any solutions that could have resolved the crisis." The "mobility movement" stressed that the implementation of the salary deduction is a dangerous turn of events.

For his part, a source from the striking teachers, who preferred not to be named, said in an interview with Al-Quds.com: “The refusal of what the Prime Minister announced came because there were discounts on the striking teachers after the February salary was paid today, Thursday, which amounted to More than a thousand shekels, which fueled the crisis, which requires the government to quickly resolve this issue.

According to the same source, there is a discussion taking place among the teachers about whether or not the strike will continue, and next week will be decisive regarding the continuation of the strike and protests. He represents them, as they were forced to strike outside the ranks of the union, which requires accelerating the democratization of the union.

For his part, teacher Faisal Jadallah from the Nablus Education Directorate, and one of the observers of the agreement concluded with teachers last year, told Al-Quds.com, "The announcement of the continuation of the teachers' strike and protest activities, since the Prime Minister's speech did not refer to the agreement that was concluded, And that what is being talked about by the government does not implement the terms of the agreement, and the speech ignored not only the initiative, but also the teachers.

On the other hand, Jadallah said: "The deductions that were implemented on last month's salary, and it became clear after disbursing it today, that there were deductions that amounted to more than a thousand shekels for some teachers, came in the context of the aggravation of the crisis."

Jadallah stressed that teachers want to implement the agreement, which is the minimum of teachers' demands and aspirations, and the government is supposed to abide by it, since everyone signed it, while stressing that the teachers' demand to "democratize the union" does not mean its abolition.

For about a month, teachers carried out sit-ins in front of the headquarters of the education directorates in the West Bank in response to the "teachers' movement", amid the teachers' insistence on demanding their rights until the implementation of an agreement concluded, in May 2022, between the Palestinian government, the General Union of Palestinian Teachers and the "mobility". Teachers”, sponsored by many institutions and personalities, and the strike stopped after that.

The agreement included 5 items, namely: returning discounts to teachers, professionalizing education, issuing a teacher protection law, working to “democratize the union”, and depositing a 15% bonus for the nature of work on the salary slip, starting from the first month of the new year 2023.

Singapore executes a Malaysian with an intellectual disability

Singapore - (AFP) - Singapore on Wednesday carried out the death penalty against a Malaysian with a mental disability, according to what his sister announced, after a long legal battle and despite a great international mobilization to support him.

It was Naganthran K. Dharmalingam was arrested in 2009 for smuggling a small amount of heroin upon entering Singapore, which has among the world's most stringent anti-drug laws, and was sentenced to death the following year.

This decision sparked widespread criticism due to concerns about his intellectual disability.

Calls for clemency for the convict multiplied, from the European Union to the British billionaire Richard Branson.

The long legal battle, which lasted more than ten years, ended last month with the rejection of a final appeal, after the judges rejected the defense's argument that the execution of a mentally handicapped man violated international law.

His sister, Sarmila Dharmalingam, who is in Malaysia, told AFP that Naganthran, 34, was executed early in the morning, condemning "Singapore's implementation of the death penalty (...) despite international calls for clemency for him."

"We are very saddened by the execution of our brother and the family is shocked," she added.
The anti-execution NGO Reprieve said Naganthran was "the victim of a tragic miscarriage of justice".
The director of the organization, Maya Foa, said that the execution of a man with an intellectual disability was "unjustified and represents a flagrant violation of international law, which Singapore has chosen to adhere to."

The death penalty for Naganthran was scheduled for November but was postponed after an appeal was filed on the grounds that the execution of a person with an intellectual disability was against international law.

His sympathizers assert that he has an IQ of 69, a level that classifies his owners as mentally handicapped, and they say he was coerced to commit this crime.

However, the authorities justified the punishment against him by saying that the court rulings showed that he knew what he was doing at the time of the crime.

British businessman Richard Branson, speaking to Agence France-Presse on Tuesday, called on Singapore President Halimah Yacob to pardon Naganthran, describing the death penalty as "inhumane".

After a hiatus of more than two years, Singapore resumed executions last month with the hanging of another drug trafficker.
Death penalty opponents fear that the authorities will embark on a series of executions, as appeals from a large number of death row prisoners have recently been rejected.

The transfer of the Sri Lankan president to a base near the airport and talk of his going into exile

Colombo , (AFP) - Sri Lanka's president was flown to a military base near the main international airport Monday, officials said, prompting speculation he may be heading into exile abroad.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had fled the presidential palace in Colombo with a security escort from the Navy on Saturday, shortly before thousands of protesters stormed the presidential compound.

Hours later, the Speaker of Parliament announced that Rajapaksa would resign Wednesday to make way for a "peaceful transition of power".

The 73-year-old president had sought refuge at a naval facility, a senior defense official told AFP, before he was transferred to the Katunayake base, which shares a common fence with Bandaranaike International Airport.

"Rajapaksa and his entourage were flown back to Colombo on two Bell-412 helicopters," the official said.

There was no official statement from the president's office regarding his whereabouts, but several local media reports speculated that he might head to Dubai later on Monday.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's office had said that Rajapaksa had officially informed him of his intention to resign, without specifying a date.

Earlier Monday, protesters handed a Sri Lankan court the millions of rupees Rajapaksa left behind when he fled his official residence, police said.

Official sources stated that a bag full of documents was found in the luxurious home.

Rajapaksa moved to live in the building, which was built two hundred years ago, after he was forced to flee his private home on March 31, as a result of an attempt by demonstrators to storm it.

In the event of Rajapaksa's resignation, Wickremesinghe will automatically assume the position of acting president, until parliament elects a deputy to complete the term, which ends in November 2024.

But Wickremesinghe himself declared his desire to step down if it was agreed to form a unity government.

The process of naming a successor can last from three days (which is the minimum possible period for parliament to convene) to the maximum 30 days allowed under the Basic Law.

The main opposition party, Smaghi Jana Balawijaya (SJB), is holding talks with smaller political groups on Monday to secure support for its leader, Sajit Premadasa.

A party official said a preliminary agreement was reached with dissidents from the Rajapaksa Party (SLPP) to support Premadasa, 55, who lost in the 2019 presidential election.

Premadasa is the son of former President Ranasinghe Premadasa, who was assassinated in a suicide bombing by Tamil rebels in May 1993.

Also among the candidates for the premiership is former Information Minister Dolas Alahabiruma (63 years), who was loyal to Rajapaksa, according to an SJB deputy participating in the talks, according to AFP.

Five ministers resigned at the end of the week, while Wickremesinghe's office reported that the government had agreed on Monday to submit a collective resignation once an agreement was reached on a "all-party government".

On Monday, large numbers of people lined up in front of the presidential palace, seeking to enter it. The long waiting lines exceeded the long lines in front of the city's gas stations.

The demonstrators assured that they will not leave until Rajapaksa formally resigns.

"The demand is very clear, people are still demanding (Rajapaksa's) resignation completely and confirmed in writing," said protester Dela Perez.

"So we hope that we will get this resignation from the government, including the prime minister and the president, in the coming days," he added.

Protesters took over Rajapaksa's office shortly after storming the palace on Saturday, vowing not to leave until he formally resigned.

The prime minister's private home in Colombo was set on fire on Saturday night.

The demonstrators have been organizing sit-ins outside the president's office for more than three months to demand his resignation, due to the unprecedented economic crisis the country is experiencing.

He accuses Rajapaksa of mismanaging the economy to such an extent that the country ran out of foreign currency to fund even basic imports, something that left the population of 22 million in a dire straits.

Wickremesinghe, an opposition lawmaker, assumed the premiership in May in an attempt to steer the country out of its political crisis, marking the sixth time he has been appointed to the post.

Sri Lanka defaulted on its $51 billion foreign debt in April and is in talks with the International Monetary Fund for a possible bailout.

Sri Lanka has almost used up its scarce supplies, mainly of oil.

The government ordered the closure of non-essential offices and schools to reduce traffic and save fuel.

The family of an imprisoned Egyptian dissident warns that he may die during the Climate Summit

LONDON - (AFP) - The family of imprisoned dissident Alaa Abdel-Fattah has called on British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to intervene in his case during his participation in the COP27 climate summit in Egypt next week.

Abdel-Fattah is on hunger strike and warned his relatives that if he is not released during the summit, he will probably die in prison because he will stop taking fluids from Sunday, the opening day of the twenty-seventh session of the Conference of the Parties.

Abdel Fattah, a prominent figure in the 2011 revolution that overthrew President Hosni Mubarak, is serving a five-year prison sentence for "broadcasting false news", and he has spent a large part of the past decade in prison.

He was granted British citizenship in prison in April through his British-born mother.

Cairo has faced repeated criticism of its human rights record since announcing last year that it would host the COP27 climate summit, a move that rights groups said "rewarded the repressive rule" of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

"I want to invite Rishi Sunak to intervene" in my brother's file, Sanaa Seif, one of Abdel-Fattah's sisters, told reporters in London.

"You will meet Sisi... and if you don't show interest, he will interpret it as a green light to kill him," she added.

Sana explained that the family received a phone call from British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly on Wednesday and met Thursday with British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tariq Ahmed.

Another sister, Mona Seif, added that if her brother is not released during the climate conference, he will surely "die in prison."

She added that her brother was eating only 100 calories a day in the form of a spoonful of honey and a little milk in his tea and would start a hunger strike on Sunday.

In an open letter published Wednesday, 15 Nobel laureates called on Egypt to release Abdel Fattah.

More than 90 heads of state and government are scheduled to participate in the summit, which will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh resort from 6 to 18 November.

Human rights organizations estimate that about 60,000 political prisoners are languishing in Egyptian prisons, many of them in harsh conditions and overcrowded cells, accusations Cairo denies.

Reasons for lack of self-confidence at work

Hamburg - (dpa) - The working day can be very enjoyable, especially for those with a high level of training, who know their stuff and get on well with others. In other words, they are the ideal conditions for success.

However, there are many who doubt themselves at work and criticize themselves a lot by thinking things like: “I am not good enough”, or “Am I even capable of doing this?”.

Women are very critical of themselves at work

"It is often women who suffer from a lack of self-confidence in their jobs," says career counselor Hane Bergen. For example, the "International University of Applied Sciences" in Bad Honnef, Bonn, found through a study conducted in 2017 (in German) that women consider the strengths they have in their careers to be much less than the strengths of those around them.

According to the study, it is possible for men to criticize themselves strongly as well, but to a much lesser extent than women. And there can be very different reasons for lack of self-confidence on the job. It may be that those who are self-critical suddenly face new tasks for which they do not have sufficient experience.

"In such cases, some self-doubt is normal," says career counselor Ragnild Strauss. "However, very often a lack of self-confidence stems from a lack of self-respect."

This is often associated with unrealistic expectations of oneself, says Strauss. Because even if a particular task presents a challenge, with a consistent level of self-esteem, one can confidently see something new as an opportunity for development. However, if one is feeling insecure, the focus is more on the fear of failure.

People who seek perfection tend to lack self-confidence

If you are the type of person who makes their self-esteem depend too much on the positive opinions of others, you will quickly become insecure when you do not get anything from others. "In such cases, it is often helpful to simply ask others for opinions on the work you have done," advises career counselor Bergen.

It is also important to have a positive self-image. In order to achieve this end, one must ask oneself: What am I achieving through my work, and what is the final product of my work? One might also assure oneself that not everything has to be perfect all the time, and that it should be done as quickly as possible.

Writing things down helps one overcome self-doubt

Career counselor Strauss recommends doing a realistic analysis of the situation and writing it all down. For example, one can write down the tasks in which he or she feels insecure, and then describe those tasks. What does it consist of, what skills are required?

Then one must ask himself why he thinks he is not up to the task. Does he really lack the necessary skills? Am I afraid that I will not be able to finish the task in the required time? "Once someone knows why they are feeling insecure, then they can start to act," says Strauss.
This could include, for example, acquiring certain technical skills, having a conversation with one's team leader about one's workload, or dealing with concerns in a therapeutic way.

How to avoid a lack of self-confidence in the long run

It is important to constantly take care of oneself in order to control a lack of self-confidence at work in the long run. “One might regularly write down two or three situations in which they did particularly well,” Bergen recommends. If a lack of self-confidence appears, one may simply read what he has written to boost his self-confidence.

Hebron - "Jerusalem" dot com - Today, Thursday, the Palestinians in Hebron funeral procession for the body of the martyr Osama Mahmoud Adawi (17 years) from Al-Arroub camp, who succumbed to the serious wounds he sustained yesterday by the Israeli occupation forces.

The funeral procession set off in front of Al-Ahly Hospital in Hebron, towards Al-Aroub camp, following alternative roads through the town of Sa’ir, due to the occupation imposing a strict closure on the camp, closing its entrances completely, and preventing citizens from moving.

A setback, but there are heroes in June 1967

Written by: Wasef Erekat

Everything has two faces, there is a bright side and there is a dark side, just as each one of us has a point of view and there is nothing wrong with that as long as we accept the other point of view even if it focuses on the negative aspects, or puts the knot in the saw as it is said. I beg the reader’s pardon because I always focus on the positive aspects of our lives, as a lot of talk about the negatives destroys societies and people lose their self-confidence.

What prompted me to write this introduction is that most of us are talking about the setback of June 1967 and its negative aspects, and this will not provide lessons for generations. No one denies the defeat of the Arab armies and the victory of Israel, and the Arab negligence cannot be defended, but the defeat should not overshadow the sacrifices of our people who stood firm. On his land and patience in front of all the crimes of the occupation and suffered both, and there are heroes, whether combat soldiers in the field or steadfast civilians and eyewitnesses to the crimes of the occupation, and it is the duty to "expose the crimes of the occupation and honor the heroes who fought and were martyred or wounded in defense of the land and honor, our enemy is coming out We are confronted every day with stories that contain false narratives of criminals who committed the most heinous crimes against our people, claiming that they are heroics and serve their interests, bearing in mind that we have heroes and stories that are much greater than what our enemies boast about and publish on the media. In June, our people triumphed steadily on their land. And when the buses that the occupation equipped to deport him and transport him to the border returned empty, he triumphed when he endured all the pains and torments, and in my narration some of them:

On June 4, 1967, I was an officer with the rank of lieutenant in the 6th Heavy Artillery Battalion of the Jordanian Army Artillery Corps, based in Zarqa and its batteries in the West Bank. April, when we were suddenly asked to stop training and join the field sites following the declaration of the state of emergency, and the battery to which I belong was stationed in the village of Zababdeh in the Jenin governorate to support the infantry brigade Khaled Ibn Al-Walid, we were happy with the news because we will fight our enemy, the Zababdeh arrived at a record speed, I found my colleagues in the battery eagerly preparing for confrontation, and I found that a section of them had two 155 mm cannons that had been moved to the village of Al-Yamoun in order to bombard targets that could not be reached by the Zababdeh cannons. I and he were division commanders and we took turns in tasks, especially the task of monitoring and observing from the heights of Jenin, and colleagues from the battery moved with him: Sergeant Yahya Hassan Al-Maaita from Ader-Al-Karak, and Private Samir Mustafa Al-Qudah from Ibbin-Ajl One, and the first soldier, Ali Aqil Suleiman, from Aima in Tafilah, and the first soldier, Khalifa Mustafa Mohsen, from Hour-Irbid, and the soldier, Amin Salama Al-Momani, from Sakhra-Ajloun, and the first soldier, Salem Suleiman, from Souf-Jerash, and the soldier, Ahmed Najeeb Khalaf Al-Hamouri. From Beit Ras - Irbid, and Corporal Mahmoud Shukri Murshid from Qusra - Nablus

On the morning of the next day, June 5, with the start of the Israeli army's aggression and the fall of Israeli shells on the positions of the Jordanian Arab Army, we began to occupy the targets according to the list prepared for the battle (targets bank), foremost of which were the nearby airports, especially the Megiddo airport, the artillery sites and the axes of the advance of the Israeli tanks. I will not forget those moments The overwhelming joy of the cannon crews and the shout of God is great with every shell launched from the barrels of the cannons towards the hostile targets. The hits were accurate. The Israeli planes intensified their sorties over our positions and began hovering over these positions, forcing the cannons to stop shooting in the presence of the air force and without air cover. Especially after the Israeli air forces bombed the Arab airports, including the Jordanian ones, and we lost the most important weapon of support, and the positions of the forces became all exposed from the air and they were fighting without cover and protection. Despite all this, we were taking advantage of the opportunity of the absence of the Israeli aircraft and bombing the advancing columns of tanks despite the great difference in gear number. ‏

On the 6th and 7th of June, the situation began to deteriorate and turn for the worse, with columns of tanks storming through all axes. It got worse with the martyrdom of the Yamoon artillery commander, First Lieutenant Muhammad Abu al-Foul, while he was moving between locations on his way to Yamoon, where an Israeli tank hit his car and trampled it with its track, killing a man. The Fur and its driver survived the crime, and the Yamoun and Zababdeh cannons continued to bombard the targets according to the drawn plan and according to the developments of the field situation.

The Israeli army used the pattern of bypassing, detouring, and rapid rushing in depth under air support. On June 7, Israeli tanks stormed the artillery site in the village of Al-Yamoun, after heavy and concentrated shelling on the site by enemy artillery and aircraft, which led to the death of some, the wounding of others, and the disabling of one of the cannons. Those who remained alive confronted the enemy tanks with the available and modest capabilities, until they were all martyred. Despite all that, the occupation soldiers fired at them from point blank. ‏

With the storming of the Al-Yamoun site and the arrival of information that they were approaching the village of Al-Zababdeh, we were asked to evacuate the site and take a position in a rear location. Some soldiers impeded their progress and occupied them with shooting to protect the exit of the cannons, and they did, and the cannons managed to escape from their grip. I was assigned to return to the battery command post next to the Knights station, which became a school for the Zababdeh students, in order to destroy official documents and disable everything that the enemy benefits from, and while we were We do this, the Israeli tanks stormed our site and they were carrying the Iraqi flags, I asked my fellow soldiers to retreat to the back as we do not have anti-tank launchers with us, and with the onset of darkness we started moving towards the village of Sir where the new artillery site will be, we were also surprised by the presence of Israeli tanks, and there are no We have a means of communication, and we arrived in the town of Tubas. There was a dignified, elderly woman who was baking in the taboon. She insisted on feeding us from her bread and provided us with whatever food she had. And her generosity renewed our activity, the woman went and brought some civilian clothes and said wear them so that they do not arrest you, we thanked her and asked her to keep the clothes for her owners and we continued walking in our military clothes and our individual weapons, and when I learned that our artillery crossed the river towards the east, I decided with my fellow soldiers that each of us should go on foot He went on foot to his village and contributed to its defense, but we were surprised by the Israeli army's control of most of the roads, so we had to head east and cross the Jordan River, which took us three days. ‏

As for the martyrs of Al-Yamoun, despite the tanks storming the site and the town and continuing the shelling, its good people were able to transfer their bodies to a cave in the village, and later they were transported, honored and buried in the town’s cemetery, and their names were placed on top of their graves. The people of the town tell how they found the wounded officer Abdul Aziz Al-Adwan alive while they were transporting the bodies to the cave, where his body was hot and still beating, and then they treated him and embraced him until he returned to Jordan. ‏

What happened with us in the Jenin axis happened in the other axes, and perhaps even worse and harsher, and this third war led to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Sinai and the Golan, in which the armies were defeated but the people were not defeated. May God have mercy on those who preceded us on the path and glory to the glory makers. ‏

The new Israeli army minister is an ally of Netanyahu and a defender of the settlements

Jerusalem - (AFP) - Israel's new defense minister, Yoav Gallant, is a former general and staunch ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a staunch defender of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Galant, 64, oversaw the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005 and led Operation Cast Lead against Hamas leaders between 2008 and 2009.

He became involved in politics in 2015. Since then, he has held the housing portfolio (2015), education and immigration 2019-2021.

Observers fear a radical change in Israeli policy in the West Bank under the new Netanyahu government.

The new army minister is known for his support for the settlements, which are illegal under international law, yet there are about 475,000 settlers living there.

Following Galant's appointment, the head of the Settlement Council (Yesha) Shlomo Ne'eman welcomed Galant. The council represents Israeli settlers living in the West Bank.

"Yoav Gallant is a man who did a lot for the settlement in Judea and Samaria," Neeman said Thursday, using the biblical name for the occupied West Bank.

On Wednesday evening, former defense minister Benny Gantz spoke by phone with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

During the call, Gantz stressed "the important relations that existed between the Israeli defense establishment, the political leadership, and the Palestinian Authority."

Gallant was born in the Mediterranean port of Jaffa in 1958 to Polish parents who survived the Holocaust.

He was an accomplished soldier and officer in the elite naval unit known as "Flotilla 13" that carried out an operation against the Palestinian Fatah movement in Lebanon in 1978.

At that time, the unit killed about 20 Palestinian militants in the operation, which was enshrined in the history books of the Israeli army.

Between 1982 and 1984, Gallant announced that he had taken a leave of absence from the Army to move to Alaska, where he worked as a lumberjack.

In 2002, he reached the rank of general and served as the military attache to former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

He later rose to become commander of the Southern Military Command and oversaw Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005, which saw the evacuation of 8,000 settlers from those settlements.

In late 2008 and early 2009, Galant led Operation Cast Lead against the Gaza Strip, which lasted 22 days and resulted in the killing of 1,440 Palestinians and 13 Israelis.

A United Nations report accused both Israel and the ruling Islamist Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip of committing war crimes during the escalation.

Although he was part of a scandal confiscating public lands to build his home, in 2010 he was nominated for the position of Chief of Staff of the Army.

But Gallant was not charged with a criminal offense after an investigative report triggered a petition to the Supreme Court. However, there has been talk of potential legal problems if he is appointed.

Gantz was then chosen chief of staff, and today he succeeds Galant Gantz in the defense portfolio.

Later, after leaving the army, he became director of an excavation company owned by a French-Israeli businessman named Benny Steinmetz, but he resigned from this position in 2014 to get involved in politics.

In 2015, he became housing minister for the center-right Kulanu party, or "All of us," before moving to Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party in 2019.

Freeing the bodies of the martyrs....!!

Written by: Rashid Hassan

The Zionist enemy insists on committing crimes that no one else has committed. The pages of racists and fascists have not seen anything like it... the most filthy, miserable, and brutal... and dark and dark...!
The occasion of this hadith is the insistence of this enemy coming from the caves of darkness, to continue detaining the bodies of the righteous martyrs in the refrigerators of the dead, and some of these bodies have passed for many years. He also insists at the same time not to hand over the remains of the martyrs, who buried them in the tombs of numbers. Tens of years have passed since some of them were buried...and they are called the martyrs of the external patrols, who were martyred on Palestinian land, after they crossed the border and clashed with the enemy forces.
The voice of our people became hoarse as they denounced the crimes of the enemy and their strength was exhausted, as they demonstrated in front of the headquarters of the Red Cross, calling for the release of the relatives of the martyrs..
In this regard, we point out two important observations:
The first: the inability of the Palestinian Authority to liberate these martyrs.. It has been proven that the enemy does not respond to the language of appeal.. but only responds to the language of force.. This reminds us of the liberation of a number of martyrs in numbers in a prisoner exchange deal led by the Lebanese resistance.
The second: The enemy deals with the prisoners and martyrs as criminals, outlaws, and does not consider them prisoners of war. that recognizes the resistance.
Did not General de Gaulle, the father of the French resistance, resist the Nazis? Did George Washington, the founder of modern America, resist British colonialism? And Gandhi resisting British colonialism? Ho Chi Minh to resist French and American colonialism?? And Houari Boumediene resisting French colonialism??
Before concluding, we wonder why the agreements with the enemy, especially Oslo, did not stipulate the secret release of the prisoners and the bodies of the martyrs. To Ramallah..!!
It is very painful that our grieving families, who are mourning the martyrdom of their children, are grieving twice. The bitterness and pain of losing their children, and the bitterness that they have not yet attended their funerals as befits their sacrifices. And bury them in well-known graves. They visit them on religious occasions, to have mercy on them.
All this confirms that the lives of the Palestinians have become different from the lives of others..!
And their death also became different from the death of others..! And their burial requires a miracle for the enemy to agree to remove them from the refrigerators of the dead or the tombs of numbers..!
This is the life of the Palestinian people with all its cruelty.. its harshness.. its pain.. its pain.. and its suffering.. what necessitates that it keep its finger on the trigger and not back down to get out of this very long night.. to embrace a new dawn unlike any other.
“They see it far away.. and we see it close.” God the Great is true. About the "Jordanian Constitution"

Amazon said that Kindle users in China will be able to download pre-purchased e-books until June 30, 2024, and read them indefinitely after that.

The Saudi monarch and his crown prince conduct an official reception for the Turkish president

Riyadh - (dpa) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived in the Kingdom on his first visit after the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, received, at the Peace Palace in Jeddah, on Thursday night, Friday, Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. At the Riyadh Consulate in Istanbul in 2018.

And the Saudi Press Agency, "SPA", stated: "An official reception ceremony was held for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, where the national anthems of the two countries were played.

After that, the Saudi Crown Prince held a meeting with the Turkish President, during which they reviewed opportunities to develop relations between Riyadh and Ankara in various fields.

The two sides also discussed "developments in the regional and international situation and the efforts exerted in this regard."

Erdogan arrived in Jeddah on Thursday evening on a visit to the Kingdom, his first since 2018, specifically since the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Riyadh consulate in Istanbul.

The Turkish president's office had announced that Erdogan would travel to Saudi Arabia, on a two-day visit, as a culmination of Ankara's months-long efforts to mend relations with Riyadh.

The Turkish presidency said that Erdogan will discuss in meetings, during the visit, Ankara's relations with the Kingdom, as well as ways to increase cooperation.
Over the past weeks, the Turkish president has stressed his country's desire to strengthen relations with Saudi Arabia.

Last February, Erdogan said in a press statement, "We want to strengthen our relations with Saudi Arabia as well, and we want to advance our positive dialogue with it with concrete steps in the coming period."

Turkey had started a trial in absentia in July 2020 against 26 Saudis suspected of involvement in Khashoggi's murder, but it transferred the file on April 7 to Saudi Arabia, which angered human rights organizations.

The Saudi journalist and writer for the Washington Post, Jamal Khashoggi, was killed at the age of 59 on October 2, 2018, when he came to request a document necessary to contract his marriage, according to Turkey.
In September 2020, the Saudi Public Prosecution announced the issuance of final rulings against those accused of Khashoggi’s murder, and the closure of the case, both public and private, as the prosecution stated, in a statement, that final rulings had been issued against eight convicts in the case, pointing out that “the right in the Khashoggi case ended with a waiver.” legitimacy of the deceased's family.

The end of the Russian armistice and the battles on the ground in Ukraine continue

Kiev ( Ukraine ) - (AFP) - Ukrainians and Russians celebrated Orthodox Christmas on Saturday, as the unilateral ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin ended, without stopping fighting on the ground.

"Today the world was able to see once again how insincere all the speeches made at the highest level in Moscow are," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video message released in the evening. He added, "They talked about an alleged cease-fire... but the truth is that Russian shells continued to bomb Bakhmut (east) and other Ukrainian sites," stressing that the only solution is "to expel the occupying Russians from Ukrainian lands."

And ended at midnight on Saturday (21:00 GMT) cease-fire announced by Moscow, as of Friday noon. Ukraine accused the Russian army of not respecting it, while Russia accused the Ukrainians of preventing its implementation, denouncing the continued Ukrainian artillery shelling of its positions.

And the Russian forces said that they had repelled, during the past twenty-four hours, a number of attacks launched by the Ukrainian army in eastern Ukraine, and that they had killed dozens of soldiers on Friday.

Ukraine considered the Russian armistice a "propaganda strike" to buy time. Washington, Paris, London, Berlin and the European Union condemned the declaration of the truce.

Agence France-Presse correspondents in the city of Chasev Yar in eastern Ukraine heard the sound of continuous shelling throughout the pre-noon period.

In Bakhmut, the epicenter of the battles, north of this city, on Friday, AFP correspondents recorded an exchange of artillery fire from both sides of the front in the hours following the entry into force of the unilateral ceasefire. However, the force of the blows was lighter compared to the previous days.

According to the Ukrainian Public Prosecution Office, two people were killed and 13 others were injured on Friday in Bakhmut, a large part of which was destroyed by the fighting, and that the two camps suffered heavy losses.

The Ukrainian authorities said that Russian forces also bombed the Kherson region (south) on Friday, killing a paramedic and wounding seven others.

In the Zaporizhia region (southeast), the local administration said that a United Nations mission that was distributing humanitarian aid in Orekhev had come under "enemy fire".

Saturday countries celebrate Christmas according to the Eastern calendar. Orthodox Christians make up the majority in Russia as well as in Ukraine.

In Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin stood alone during midnight mass in a church in the Kremlin.

In a message released by the Kremlin on Saturday, Putin congratulated Orthodox Christians on the holiday, saying that the occasion is a source of inspiration for "good deeds and aspirations."

He said that church associations "support our soldiers participating in a special military operation," using the Kremlin's official designation for the attack.

In Ukraine, hundreds of faithful participated on Saturday in a mass in the Kiev Caves Monastery, which was previously under the authority of the Moscow Patriarchate, but in December it came under the control of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.

The service was performed by Metropolitan Epiphany, the head of this church, which became independent from the Moscow Patriarchate between 2018 and 2019.
"We waited a long time before this place was handed over to us. It is a truly historic event, which all Ukrainians have been waiting for," choir conductor Veronika Martiniuk, 19, told AFP.

Congregationalist Oksana Sopko, 47, said, "Every country has its own church. And we have our own - that's very good. A Ukrainian church, that's how it should be."

In Chasiv Yar, near the frontline, local residents huddled in a basement instead of going to church, fearing the bombing. Of the group of believers who numbered more than a hundred in this city, only nine remained.
"Thank God, we are gathered. That's enough," says Zinaida Artyukhina, 62, the only remaining member of the church choir.

Even if the ceasefire declared by Putin was respected, it would have provided only 36 hours of respite in an intense conflict that has been going on for nearly 11 months.

On Friday, the United States announced $3 billion in military aid to Ukraine, in a package that the White House said would include Bradley armored vehicles, armored personnel carriers and self-propelled howitzers.

"This year of victory has just begun," the Ukrainian presidency said, adding that the US "package" also includes HIMARS precision missiles and Sea Sparrow anti-aircraft missiles.

This came after a German government spokesman announced on Friday that his country would send 40 Marder armored vehicles to the Ukrainian army in the first quarter of 2023, in the first announcement of a concrete delivery of this type of equipment.

Western arms supplies are essential to Kiev and have enabled it, in particular, to carry out an effective counterattack, which removed Russian forces from the Kharkiv region in the northeast and from the city of Kherson in the south.

The front was largely frozen by the winter, but Ukraine expressed its fear of a new Russian attack.

Meanwhile, the British government announced Saturday that the UK will host a meeting of justice ministers in March to discuss ways to support the International Criminal Court's investigation into alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

The International Criminal Court, based in The Hague, is currently conducting an investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity that may have been committed in Ukraine.

Israel and Zambia hold their first economic conference in Lusaka

Lusaka - (dpa) - Zambia's Trade Minister Chebuka Mulenga announced that his country has potential to increase its exports to Israel to reach at least one billion US dollars.

The Lusaka Times of Zambia quoted Mulenga as saying at the opening of the first economic conference between Zambia and Israel: “Zambia is currently importing $163 million from Israel, while its exports to it do not exceed $3 million.

Nevertheless, Mulenga said at the opening of the conference entitled: "Israel in Zambia... the spirit of innovation" that this situation constitutes a trade imbalance between the two countries, indicating that the two countries have the ability to remedy this trade imbalance.

For her part, Ofra Farhi, Israel's ambassador to Zambia, told the conference that Zambia's private sector-led economic agenda would attract Israeli investments.

She added that this is due to the interest of the two countries in the private sector and considering it a hub for economic growth.

She noted that Zambia can set an example for other African countries with regard to trade and investment relations with Israel.
She said that Israel's innovation capacity can make a significant contribution to Zambia's quest to rebuild its economy.

"We would like to look at Zambia as a case study, perhaps for other African countries, on how to build ties with Israel, increase the volume of trade and investment, and establish an open bilateral economic channel of communication between the two countries," she said.

This is the first trade conference held by the two countries.
