China Reiterates Two-State Solution Needed for Israel, Palestine

China said the latest escalation of violence after Hamas attacked Israel showed a long-term stagnation of the peace process is “unsustainable,” as it reiterated support for an independent Palestinian state.

“All parties” should act with restraint and cease fire immediately to prevent further deterioration, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said in a statement Sunday. A fundamental way to stem the recurrence of conflict between Palestine and Israel is a “two-state solution,” according to the statement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared his country is “at war” after Gaza Strip militants fired over 3,000 missiles and infiltrated its southern parts early Saturday. Hundreds have been killed on both sides. Peace talks around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have been stalled since 2014.

“The international community should increase its sense of urgency, increase investment in the Palestinian issue, promote the early resumption of peace talks between Palestine and Israel, and seek a path to lasting peace,” the Chinese foreign ministry said. “China will continue to work with the international community to make unremitting efforts to this end.”

China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has been increasingly vocal on Israeli-Palestinian issues as it tries to raise its presence in the Middle East. In June, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas visited China and met President Xi Jinping, who proposed an international peace conference on the conflict.

Timeline of conflict between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza

The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas launched its biggest assault on Israel in years early on Saturday, firing a barrage of rockets from Gaza and sending fighters across the border.

Israel said it was on a war footing and began its own strikes against Hamas targets in Gaza, with Israeli media reporting gunbattles between bands of Palestinian fighters and security forces in southern Israel.

The following timeline, which begins with Israel's 2005 withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, details the major flare-ups in the conflict between Israel and Palestinian groups in the crowded coastal enclave, which is home to 2.3 million people.

August 2005 - Israeli forces unilaterally withdraw from Gaza 38 years after capturing it from Egypt in the Middle East war, abandoning settlements and leaving the enclave under the control of the Palestinian Authority.

Jan. 25, 2006 - The Islamist group Hamas wins a majority of seats in a Palestinian legislative election. Israel and the U.S. cut off aid to Palestinians because Hamas refuses to renounce violence and recognize Israel.

Advertisement · Scroll to continue

June 25, 2006 - Hamas militants capture Israeli army conscript Gilad Shalit in a cross-border raid from Gaza, prompting Israeli air strikes and incursions. Shalit is finally freed more than five years later in a prisoner exchange.

June 14, 2007 - Hamas takes over Gaza in a brief civil war, ousting Fatah forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is based in the West Bank.

Dec. 27, 2008 - Israel launches a 22-day military offensive in Gaza after Palestinians fire rockets at the southern Israeli town of Sderot. About 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis are reported killed before a ceasefire is agreed.

Nov. 14, 2012 - Israel kills Hamas's military chief of staff, Ahmad Jabari. Eight days of Palestinian militant rocket fire and Israeli air strikes follow.

July-August 2014 - The kidnap and killing of three Israeli teenagers by Hamas leads to a seven-week war in which more than 2,100 Palestinians are reported killed in Gaza and 73 Israelis are reported dead, 67 of them military.

March 2018 - Palestinian protests begin at Gaza’s fenced border with Israel. Israeli troops open fire to keep protestors back. More than 170 Palestinians are reported killed in several months of protests, which also prompt fighting between Hamas and Israeli forces.

May 2021 - After weeks of tension during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, hundreds of Palestinians are wounded in clashes with Israeli security forces at the Al Aqsa compound in Jerusalem, Islam’s third holiest site.

After demanding Israel withdraw security forces from the compound, Hamas unleashes a barrage of rockets from Gaza into Israel. Israel hits back with air strikes on Gaza. Fighting goes on for 11 days, killing at least 250 people in Gaza and 13 in Israel.

Aug 2022 - At least 44 people, including 15 children, are killed in three days of violence that begin when Israeli air strikes hit a senior Islamic Jihad commander.

Israel says the strikes were a pre-emptive operation against an imminent attack by the Iranian-backed militant movement, targeting commanders and arms depots. In response, Islamic Jihad fires more than 1,000 rockets towards Israel. Israel's Iron Dome air defense system prevents any serious damage or casualties.

Jan 2023 - Islamic Jihad in Gaza fires two rockets towards Israel after Israeli troops raid a refugee camp and kill seven Palestinian gunmen and two civilians. The rockets set off alarms in Israeli communities near the border but cause no casualties. Israel responds with air strikes on Gaza.

Oct 2023 - Hamas launches the biggest attack on Israel in years from the Gaza Strip, with a surprise assault combining gunmen crossing the border with a heavy barrage of rockets. Islamic Jihad says its fighters have joined the attack.

Israel's military said it was on a war footing, adding it had carried out strikes targeting Hamas in Gaza and had called up reservists.

The United Nations forces operating in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) urged to exercise restraint and de-escalate the security situation between Lebanon and Israel.

This came according to the official Lebanese National News Agency in a statement by UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti.

Tenenti confirmed that "early this morning, UNIFIL peacekeepers monitored the launching of several missiles from southern Lebanon towards the territory occupied by Israel in the Kafr Shuba area, and artillery fire from Israel into Lebanon in response."

He added, "We are in contact with the authorities on both sides of the Blue Line at all levels, to contain the situation and avoid a more dangerous escalation."

The Lebanese Hezbollah claimed in a statement that its military arm had fired large numbers of artillery shells and missiles directed at 3 Israeli sites in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms, including the Mount Hermon Observatory site, the largest Israeli army observatory on the border line with Lebanon.

Israel bears responsibility for Al-Aqsa Flood operation

op-ed Al Quds dot com

We said more than once that for every action there is a reaction equal in amount and opposite in direction, but the occupying state did not pay any attention to this law and believed that by possessing the power it could subjugate the Palestinian people and liquidate their national cause under what it calls resolving the conflict in its favor, and that if the Palestinian people do not submit by force, then with more force.

Based on this, the current occupation government, which is the most right-wing, extremist, and racist in the history of previous governments, has continued its acts of killing, assassinations, and incursions into areas, including Area A, which is subject to the Palestinian National Authority, in addition to the crimes of the armed forces and settlers, and the incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque as part of attempts to divide it spatially after its success. In dividing it temporally, in addition to the orgies of Ben Gvir and Smotrich, the statements of the Israeli Prime Minister, and his presentation at the United Nations of a map in which the name of the Palestinians and the occupied Palestinian territories did not appear, he replaced them with Israel in an act of arrogance.

This is in addition to the restrictions imposed on citizens at checkpoints, storming homes, barbaric settler attacks that affected people, trees, and stones, Ben Gvir’s procedures and decisions against male and female prisoners, and attempts to undermine their steadfastness.

All of this led to what we have been seeing since yesterday morning, the announcement of the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip through Muhammad al-Deif, commander of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades affiliated with the Hamas movement, about the launch of Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” in response to what the herds of settlers and the organizations of the so-called “Temple Mount” wreaked inside the Temple Mount( Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif), especially on Jewish holidays, which are considered a “rehearsal” and a prelude to attempts to seize the first of the two ( qiblahs) prayers directions, the second of the two mosques, the third of the Two Holy Mosques, and the site from which the Prophet Muhammad rise to heaven, may God bless him and grant him peace.

This large-scale operation also came as a victory for the detainees movement and for our people in Jerusalem and the West Bank who are exposed to the scourges of the occupation, as well as to thwart the occupation’s plans to resolve the conflict in its favor, and to tell the extremists in Netanyahu’s government that the Palestinian people will not surrender and will not submit, and that the occupying state must acknowledge its inalienable national rights to Return, self-determination, and establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif) as its capital.

The occupying state is the one who bears responsibility for this operation. Its crimes, violations, neglect of the Palestinian people and their national rights, and bragging about its military power are what led to the massive operation, for which it will pay a heavy price.

The United States of America, through its support for the occupying state and preventing it from being held accountable for what it commits against the Palestinian people, and providing it with all types of weapons that it uses against Palestinian citizens, is also the one who bears responsibility for what is happening now.

The international community, which deals with two standards, led by the colonial West, also bears responsibility, not the Palestinian people or the resistance that announced the start of the broad operation. The operation came as a result of depriving our people of their national rights for more than 76 years, and even conspiring against these rights, but no right is lost that has demands behind it.

On the anniversary of the glorious October War, lessons learned

Muneeb Rashid Al-Masry

Muneeb Rashid Al-Masry

Opinion Writer

Half a century ago, the Egyptians and Syrians were victorious when they took the initiative and surprised the entire world. They broke the Arab silence and headed towards Sinai and the Golan. This day constituted a turning point in the Arab-Israeli conflict, as the ability of the Arabs to unite and conquer the Israeli entity was demonstrated.

Therefore, this day is considered a black day in the history of the Israeli occupation, as the Egyptians crossed into Sinai, and the Syrians crossed into the Golan, and the Prime Minister of Israel at that time, Golda Meir, launched distress calls to which the United States of America responded to stop what US Secretary of State Kissinger called a disaster.

During my meeting with Kissinger more than once, he spoke about his role in harnessing his diplomatic skill, in addition to the massive military supplies provided by the United States, in order to save Israel and reach a truce agreement, which included stopping the clashes and returning the city of Quneitra to Syria, and the eastern bank of the Suez Canal to Egypt.

The most prominent results of the October War were the restoration of the Suez Canal and the return of navigation, the recovery of part of the Golan Heights, the restoration of Arab dignity after the defeat of 1967, and the restoration of Arab confidence in the face of the invincible army.

On this glorious anniversary, a number of lessons must be learned, the most prominent of which are:

The Israeli occupation is an occupation by force of arms, built on a false and illegitimate foundation, and resisting it by all means and methods is a legitimate right until all Palestinian and Arab lands are liberated.

The Israeli occupation only understands the language of force, and the Palestinians and Arabs must fully understand that they will not be able to confront this entity and its ambitions to occupy Arab lands and control the capabilities of the Arab world unless they are strong with their decision, will, sovereignty, unity and equipment.

Unity and cohesion are the basis of victory in any battle, and it is a message to the two sides of the division, Fatah and Hamas, that this division is like a second Balfour that we are creating with our own hands, and it is considered the greatest danger threatening the liquidation of the Palestinian cause and the destruction of the Palestinian national project.

Peace is one of the available options that the Arabs have repeatedly presented, whether through the Fez Initiative in 1982, or the Arab Peace Initiative in 2002, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in order to establish a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in a way that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and in a way that guarantees the right to Return to refugees, but unfortunately these initiatives have always collided with the racism and ambitions of the Israeli occupation, and it is a message to all Arab countries that free peace and normalization at the expense of the Palestinian cause are a reinforcement of the Zionist movement’s plan to control the Arab world and its capabilities and will bring them nothing but destruction and misery.

As for the lesson that the Israeli occupation must understand well, it is that after more than 50 years of the glorious October War and 45 years after signing the peace treaty with Egypt, it has not been able to liquidate the Palestinian cause, nor has it been able to normalize with the heroic Egyptian people, and the resistance in Palestine is still rising. On all fronts, what is happening in Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarm, and the heroics of the Gaza Strip is a clear message that a just and comprehensive peace is not the path to protecting the Palestinian people, as we have a right to be victorious, sooner or later. Rather, it is a path to protect Israel and the future of its generations. We will continue to strive for peace because we are peace advocates, but not at the expense of the rights, dignity and sanctity of the Palestinian people.

On the anniversary of the glorious October War, we salute Egypt and Arab Syria, and we pray for the souls of our martyrs and the martyrs of Egypt, Syria and Jordan who won the battle of dignity and Lebanon and its resistance that defeated the occupation and liberated southern Lebanon and all the martyrs of the Arab world, wherever they fell and however their pure souls ascended to their paradise, and will remain. The blood of the Palestinian martyrs that is shed daily paves the way towards freedom, independence and victory.

The Palestinian resistance turns the tables and corrects the equation

Nihad Abu Ghosh

Nihad Abu Ghosh

Opinion Writer

It is too early to come up with definitive and final conclusions about the operation launched by the Palestinian resistance from Gaza and called it “Al-Aqsa Flood,” which surprised friends before enemies, and included successful breakthroughs from land, air, and sea, and revealed a series of Israeli security and military failures. The Palestinian resistance succeeded in controlling a large number of settlements around the Gaza Strip, inflicting heavy losses on army personnel and settlers, and capturing dozens of soldiers and settlers. But it is clear, before the dust of the battle settles, that it represents a turning point and a qualitative turning point in the history of the conflict, and there is no doubt that what comes after October 7 is not the same as before.

Even the most ardent enthusiasts of the resistance and supporters of its choices and performance did not expect that the Al-Qassam Brigades/the military wing of the Hamas movement would have accumulated its experience and developed its capabilities, in order to be able to accomplish this operation that dazzled the world, and revealed the fragility of the Israeli military and security system and the ability to penetrate it. It is true that the expected Israeli response will be brutal and harsh and will most likely go beyond traditional responses, as more than one official has threatened, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yoav Galant. Throughout its criminal history, Israel has become accustomed to creating an equation based on inflicting heavy losses on the people in exchange for adopting or supporting resistance, in addition to the political and moral dimension of this approach, which seeks to establish the conviction that Israel’s massive military surplus is capable of imposing the political outcomes determined by the occupying state.

The theory of excess Israeli power has only proven itself with regimes and regular armies. It has failed before with the Lebanese resistance, just as it has failed with all previous rounds of fighting with the Palestinian resistance. In general, it was unable to impose surrender and raise the white flag on the Palestinian people. But all of the above battles and rounds of combat will seem like mere rehearsals for the Al-Aqsa Flood Battle, which will be recorded as a special and unprecedented day in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Perhaps the closest example to it is the surprise of the October War, exactly fifty years ago, with the huge difference between the capabilities of the two Egyptian armies. On the one hand, the Syrian side is with the capabilities of the resistance, and the huge difference between Israel’s capabilities at that time and its current capabilities, which Netanyahu braggedly described during his extremist government’s presentation to the Knesset as a technological and military “superpower.” If the October War shattered the myth of the “invincible” Israeli army, then Operation Al-Aqsa Flood shattered the myth of absolute superiority that Israel praises in all fields, including military, intelligence, industrial and economic superiority.

There is a series of failures and aspects of failure that were revealed by the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation, including the intelligence failure. Perhaps this in itself is a complex failure, as Israel expected to neutralize the Hamas movement from participating in the previous rounds that focused on targeting the Islamic Jihad movement, resulting from several tools. This was deterred by the movement’s fear of the assassination of its leaders, its eagerness to cling to power in Gaza, and its adherence to some facilities, including increased work permits and regular supply of Qatari aid. It has also been proven that all Israeli security capabilities that claim to monitor all Palestinian movements, residence, plans and movements failed to monitor the plans and processes of preparing and equipping hundreds or even thousands of fighters who participated in the operation.

The operation also revealed glaring operational and military failure points, including the failure of the Iron Dome system, along with “David’s Sling,” to repel and thwart the Palestinian rockets that rained down on Israel within just two hours. Thousands of rockets fell (five thousand according to Al-Dhaif and 2,200 according to Israel) and succeeded in paralyzing them. Economic life, the suspension of Lod Airport, and many international companies canceling their flights to Tel Aviv. Among the aspects of failure was the exposure of the ease of penetrating the impenetrable wall fortified with cement walls, sand hills, barbed wire, electronic wires, sensitive sensors, cameras, and military techniques that can fire merely to detect intrusion, in addition to what Israel did during previous years by imposing a buffer zone no less than three hundred meters wide. From the borders, building platforms, flying reconnaissance planes, and other monitoring tools created the impression that even a small bird cannot penetrate these borders and fortifications except with prior Israeli approval. Thus, the operation proves the ease of penetrating all of these barriers by land, air, sea, and along the border strip, including storming all the settlements surrounding Gaza.

Perhaps one of the most prominent aspects of the Israeli defect and failure is what the operation revealed about the weakness of the combat preparations of the Israeli soldiers and military units, as if all of them “slept on guard,” as the common Israeli proverb says about those who fail in their missions.

It is certain that this operation will have strategic repercussions both on the morale of the Palestinians and the Arabs, as well as on the Israelis’ confidence in themselves, their army, and their government, which had proven before this operation to be the most failed government in Israel’s history on the security and economic levels. It would also reinforce the logic of what is known as the axis of resistance, that is, the axis that rejects normalization and adheres to the option of resistance, especially since Israel never stops directing threats to this axis, especially against the Republic of Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah. Israeli threats were not limited to words, as there were aggressive operations carried out directly or by proxy against Iran and its allies in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

As for the most prominent axes of the Israeli failure, it is the historical and political failure after Netanyahu and his extremist government were prepared that they would be able to resolve the conflict by force, and they were also prepared that they would be able to bypass the Palestinians and their national rights, and establish the equation of “peace for peace” instead of “land for peace,” and Netanyahu, who raised a map During his speech at the United Nations, he removed Palestine and the Palestinians from the conflict equation as if they did not exist, or were merely a population burden being dealt with by the logic of sanctions and facilitations. The resistance process came to prove that the Palestinians are the main and most important element in this historical conflict.

Gaza and coercive diplomacy!

Dr.. Dalal Saeb Erekat

Opinion Writer

It is true that Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005 and redeployed 9,000 settlers around the Strip, but at the core of the truth, Gaza was not liberated. The Gaza Strip remained under the complete control of the Israeli occupation authorities by land, air and sea. As Ariel Sharon's aide, Dov Weissglass, explained, "Disengagement is actually formaldehyde. It provides the necessary supply of basic needs so that they avoid any political process with the Palestinians!"

The Israeli withdrawal from Gaza was unilateral and was not coordinated with the Palestinian National Authority or the PLO, which led to the institutional and political division that has lasted for two decades. Israel used legitimate resistance as a pretext to brand Gaza as “terrorism,” and promoted to the international community that it had granted the Gaza Strip autonomy in an attempt to say that the Palestinians were divided and failed to manage the Strip, which prompted it to impose the siege!

Multilateral diplomacy failed 2.2 million Palestinians who lived in the largest prison in the world called Gaza under a comprehensive closure and Israeli air, sea and land control, deprived of the most basic human rights. Dealing with the Strip from a humanitarian perspective has made Gaza a challenge to the international community, as it has become politically and institutionally separated from the West Bank, while Israel maintains a comprehensive occupation at no cost. Achieving sustainable security requires lifting the siege and ending the long-term military occupation. This siege represents a form of structural violence and collective punishment that rises to the level of a war crime that cannot be ignored.
The world has endured seeing more than 35,000 young Palestinians seeking asylum across territorial waters, endangering their lives, and choosing to be dragged to the sea over their miserable lives in a large prison called Gaza after an Israeli siege that lasted 17 years, not to mention 75 years of apartheid, persecution, and the colonial colonial system.

The world witnessed the deadly military raids and incursions that Gaza faced to weaken the spirit of resistance. The resistance relied on launching rockets as a negotiating tactic to put pressure on Israel and obtain some facilities under the siege. The movement has long rejected the tools of diplomacy and negotiations as inconsistent with its ideology. Instead, “jihad” was defined not as a tactic but as a comprehensive and effective strategy. Diplomacy was contrary to the movement’s ideology. Today the situation is different! Resistance movements provide a model for coercive diplomacy, especially prisoner exchange negotiations. The element of surprise employed by the Palestinian resistance was a surprise to the Israeli army machine. The resistance strengthened the Palestinian position in the event that any upcoming normalization agreements or any bilateral negotiations that the Israelis might undertake, similar to the prisoner exchange negotiations that were to be built upon, were built. It happened in 2011, when the occupation authorities released 1,027 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for one hostage. What about today with more than 50 hostages, and 5,200 prisoners still languishing behind the bars of the occupation, in addition to more than 140 captive martyrs?

The resistance exposed the occupying state. The resistance we are witnessing is just a natural human struggle to achieve freedom and the most basic human rights. The Palestinian people, like other peoples, have the right to live in dignity, freely and independently, and they have the right to defend themselves in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Statements of international condemnation and unconditional support for Netanyahu's far-right Israeli government can only fuel more organized state terrorism and more impunity for Israel's ongoing crimes and collective punishment against Palestinian civilians. Since the beginning of 2023, the far-right government has executed more than 450 Palestinians!

The opportunity is ripe for Gaza to practice coercive diplomacy. This sudden development will increase pacification efforts and chances for a breakthrough. The state of emergency launched by Netanyahu will increase the possibility of normalization with Saudi Arabia and actual American intervention in the region. The resistance succeeded in carrying the stick, and strengthened the Palestinian position in any normalization or bilateral negotiations. On the near horizon. It is necessary to build through a historic prisoner exchange and remember that Gaza is part of Palestine. There must be accountability for Israeli crimes and protection for the Palestinian people, but above all, we must demand the lifting of the siege and an end to the Israeli occupation.

Lebanon is unlikely to want to pay the price of a new war against Israel

The price Lebanon does not want to pay In light of the delicate balance in the Middle East, where countries often appear on the brink of conflict, the possibility of another war looms ominously on the horizon.

This time, the likely battleground will be Lebanon, a country that has already paid a heavy price for its past conflicts.

As tensions flare, one thing is crystal clear: Lebanon cannot, and should not, pay the price of another war with Israel.

With its economy in decline, its infrastructure almost non-existent, and its people tired of constant conflict, Lebanon stands at a crossroads. One path leads to further devastation, the other to possible recovery and prosperity. The stakes have never been higher.

First of all, the Lebanese economy has seen better days. Dubbed the "Switzerland of the East" for its vibrant banking sector and cosmopolitan flair, today's Lebanon has been grappling with hyperinflation, rising unemployment, and falling GDP.

War with Israel, an overwhelming military power, would be like driving the final nail into the coffin of the country's financial system. The already strained Lebanese pound will fall in value, exacerbating the economic hardships of ordinary citizens.

Lebanon's infrastructure, the backbone of the nation, has already been destroyed. From dilapidated roads to inadequate health facilities, the country is struggling to provide basic services to its citizens.

The 2020 Beirut explosion, which rocked the capital, was a tragic testament to the country's weak infrastructure. A military confrontation with Israel will only exacerbate this fragility, pushing Lebanon to an irreparable breaking point.

However, the greatest cost of all is the human cost. The Lebanese have suffered from civil wars, foreign invasions, and internal conflicts.

The people's resilience is praiseworthy, but there is a threshold to all patience. Another conflict would not only lead to unimaginable loss of life, but would also displace countless families, further deepening the country's humanitarian crisis.

For many, the mere thought of returning to an era reminiscent of the Stone Age is unimaginable. But without international intervention and diplomatic decisions, this bleak vision could become a reality.

It is worth noting that the vast majority of Lebanese are tired of wars and call for peace. While Hezbollah, the Shiite political and military movement, often finds itself at the center of regional skirmishes, it does not speak for all Lebanese.

A common misconception is to confuse the aspirations of one group with those of the entire nation. The Lebanese people, who yearn for stability and peace, stand largely against any form of aggression.

Thus, as the drums of war beat in the distance, it is crucial for national and international stakeholders to recognize the dire consequences that another conflict in Lebanon could have.

To policymakers, influencers, and leaders: Lebanon cannot pay the price of another war. The international community needs, more than ever, to be the voice of reason and urge dialogue, diplomacy and détente.

At its heart, Lebanon is a mosaic of cultures, religions and ethnicities, known for its rich history, cuisine and landscape.

But beyond that, it is home to millions who aspire only to peace, stability and a promising future for their children. Another war with Israel is not just a geopolitical issue; It is a humanitarian issue. This is the price that Lebanon, above all, is unwilling to pay.

Germany tightens security measures in places where Jews gather

After a similar move by France, Germany decided to strengthen security around synagogues, schools and Jewish monuments. This was recorded after some Palestinian supporters took to the streets of Berlin to celebrate a surprise attack launched by the Palestinian Hamas movement early Saturday against Israel. According to an Israeli army spokesman, the situation in his country is still out of complete control.

As the escalation between the Palestinian Hamas movement and Israel continues, Germany has begun tightening security measures around Jewish synagogues, schools and monuments in the country. This step came hours after celebrations by some Palestinian supporters in the streets of Berlin, expressing their joy at the sudden attack launched by Hamas against Israel.

German Interior Minister Nancy Weiser told Bild newspaper, "In Berlin, police protection was immediately strengthened. The federal government and the regions are closely coordinating their actions."

She added that the German authorities are closely monitoring any "potential Hamas supporters."

Berlin police posted photos on social media showing “people celebrating attacks on Israel by distributing pastries” on Sonnenallee, the main street in the city’s Neukölln district. In some cases, the police checked identities.

The German account of the "Samoun" network for defending Palestinian prisoners published pictures of distributing pastries in the streets of Berlin and a message celebrating "the resistance of the Palestinian people."

Martin Heckel, mayor of the Neuköllen district, denounced “a terrible glorification of a terrible war,” in statements to Welt TV. He called on the government to ban Samidoun's "disgusting terrorist propaganda."

Later Saturday, Berlin's famous Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of a united Germany, was lit up in the colors of the Israeli flag. Chancellor Olaf Schulz wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter) “in solidarity with Israel,” and the Israeli ambassador responded on the same platform, thanking him for “this beautiful symbol.”

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced on Saturday that his country would strengthen security in places where Jews gather and Jewish schools in France, especially in Paris and its suburbs, after the attack launched by Hamas against Israel.
