A young Palestinian was killed by Israeli occupation forces in Qalqilya, and others were injured.

A young man was killed early Tuesday morning after Israeli occupation forces opened fire with live ammunition at a commercial store in the city of Qalqilya.

Local sources confirmed that Baraa Yousef Maskawi was killed by Israeli occupation forces in Qalqilya, before his body was seized. Security sources reported that other citizens were injured.

Special forces units, accompanied by military reinforcements, stormed the city from its eastern and northern entrances, raided the al-Naqqar neighborhood, and surrounded a commercial store in the western area where the martyr was staying. They demanded via loudspeakers that he surrender.

The occupation forces fired heavy gunfire at the besieged shop, followed by the launching of Energa missiles, until the young man, Maskawi, was killed. His body was seized. The martyr was a freed prisoner who was released at the end of last year after spending 22 months in captivity.

During the raid and the heavy use of live ammunition, a citizen was injured in the foot by live bullets. He was transferred to Darwish Nazzal Governmental Hospital in the city for treatment, where his injury was described as moderate. A young man, Islam Mustafa Abu Bakr, was also arrested and taken to an unknown location.

"The Israeli army and the Shin Bet have attacked more than 100 small trucks across the Gaza Strip so far (Monday), which were used by Hamas militants in terrorist activities," he claimed in a statement posted on his official website.

It awdded, "The destroyed pickup trucks were used by Hamas militants in the bloody massacre on October 7, and from which the militants invaded Israeli territory," he claimed.

Ben-Gvir attacks Shin Bet chief, accusing him of attempting a coup

Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir launched a major attack on Monday against Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, who is facing immediate dismissal, accusing him of attempting a "coup."

For weeks, the Israeli political arena has been riven by escalating disagreements between the right-wing bloc in the government led by Benjamin Netanyahu and the head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency). The dispute culminated in Ben-Gvir's dismissal, but the judiciary has frozen the decision pending appeals. The crisis intensified after Hebrew media revealed a document showing that the General Security Service (Shin Bet), led by Ronen Bar, had conducted an investigation into extremist infiltration within the Israeli police, which reports to Ben-Gvir.

Ben-Gvir called for Bar to be investigated over a document Israeli media reported was issued last September, in which he stated, "We have classified the spread of the extreme right in law enforcement institutions as a dangerous phenomenon, and preventing it is part of the Shin Bet's mission. Given the involvement of political echelons, this must be done with utmost caution."

According to the document, Barr instructed the agency's personnel to continue collecting evidence and testimonies regarding "the involvement of the political level in the actions of the security level, which led to the illegal use of force."

The revelation of this investigation by far-right journalist Amit Segal on Channel 12, coinciding with a meeting of the Israeli Security Cabinet on Sunday, prompted Ben-Gvir to attack the head of the Shin Bet.

"Spying on politicians"

While Ben-Gvir claimed to have learned of the document from his advisors, Israeli sources confirmed, according to Channel 13, that he had seen it after it was published on Channel 12, and that he had seized the opportunity to attack Bar, asking him during a cabinet meeting whether he was responsible for it. Bar vehemently denied this and stressed that he had not issued any orders to investigate him.

According to Channel 13, the extremist minister left the meeting room, then returned minutes later, carrying the documents and throwing them on the cabinet table. He said, in words reported by ministers present at the meeting: “We are talking about a lying, criminal head of the Shin Bet, whose place is in prison, not here... He heads a secret agency that spies on the political level, orders the collection of information about them to incriminate them, and is trying to carry out a coup.”

Netanyahu disavows

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office quickly denied that he had instructed the head of the Shin Bet to investigate Ben-Gvir, describing the incident as a "blatant hoax" and describing it as "undermining democracy, an attempt to bring down the right-wing government, and resembling what takes place in repressive regimes."

The Shin Bet also denied last night the existence of such an investigation, but did not rule out the possibility that the agency was looking into the matter.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper revealed on Monday that Netanyahu had received information from Bar about extremist infiltration within the police last June and asked him to provide conclusive evidence and coordinate with Ben-Gvir, but the Shin Bet chief failed to comply. The newspaper reported that Bar told ministers during a cabinet meeting yesterday: "The ministers are accusing me of treason and tomorrow they will threaten to execute me."

This escalating crisis comes amid a series of problems plaguing the Israeli political arena, including the dismissal of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, which has prompted opponents of Israel's right-wing government to escalate their protests, calling for mass demonstrations to reject these measures.

Protests continue in Israel amid ongoing petitions to the Supreme Court against the dismissal of Bar and Miara.

Israel's Supreme Court will hold a hearing on April 8 to consider the appeals against the government's decision regarding Bar, while another hearing will be scheduled regarding the petitions to dismiss Mayara.

Sa'ar: We do not want to confront Türkiye in Syria or anywhere else.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said on Monday that his country does not want a confrontation with Türkiye in Syria or anywhere else.

This came during a press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas in West Jerusalem.

Asked about Türkiye's influence in Syria, Sa'ar said, "We do not want to confront Türkiye in Syria or anywhere else."

On Sunday, Hebrew media outlets, including the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth and Channel 12, reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would hold a meeting with security officials regarding Syria "to discuss the growing Turkish influence" there after the fall of the Baath regime on December 8.

Media outlets added that Netanyahu is "following with concern the rapprochement between the new administration in Syria and Turkey," and that he will discuss what they called "increasing Turkish hegemony in Syria" at the security meeting.

Meanwhile, the Walla news website claimed that the Syrian government is in talks with Türkiye to hand over a military base in the Palmyra area of Homs province in exchange for economic, military, and political aid.

The website said that what it called the "Turkish military presence" that can be seen east of Homs "seriously concerns Israel."

Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty continue, even though the new Syrian administration, led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, has not threatened Tel Aviv in any way.

On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions took control of the country, ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family rule.

Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Golan Heights. It exploited the current situation in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, occupying the Syrian buffer zone and declaring the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two sides.

Washington: Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil concealed his work with UNRWA.

Washington said that Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, who was arrested for participating in student demonstrations denouncing the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip, concealed his work with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), according to US media.

The New York Times reported on Sunday that the US administration has expanded its list of charges against Khalil.

The charges included allegations that Khalil concealed his UNRWA membership when applying for permanent residency in the United States.

US authorities also claimed that Khalil concealed his work at the Syrian office of the British Embassy in Beirut, making these allegations "justification" for his deportation, the newspaper reported.

On March 9, US authorities arrested Khalil, who led solidarity protests at Columbia University last year to condemn Tel Aviv's genocide in Gaza.

The arrest came after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order last January on "combating anti-Semitism," which allows for the deportation of students who participate in demonstrations in support of Palestine.

Columbia University, Northwestern University, Portland State University, the Twin Cities University in Minnesota, and the University of California, Berkeley campus were among the universities where demonstrations in support of Palestine began in April 2024 and spread around the world.

Protests in support of Palestine, which began at Columbia University, spread to more than 50 other universities across the country, and police detained more than 3,100 people, most of them students and faculty members.

The university was gripped by a tense atmosphere last week after police intervened to disperse student protests against former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's visit to the campus. The clashes resulted in the arrest of some demonstrators.

The Palestinian Red Crescent condemns the occupation's targeting and siege of its crews in Rafah.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) condemned, on Monday, the Israeli occupation forces' siege and targeting of four of the society's ambulances and ten of its crews while they were carrying out their humanitarian duties. The attack came after the occupation forces bombed the Hashashin area in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, at dawn yesterday, and seized control of the area with their vehicles.

"Contact with the crew has been completely lost, and their fate has remained unknown for approximately 30 hours," the association said, expressing deep concern for the safety of its crews and holding the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for their fate. They have rejected all attempts to coordinate the rescue team's arrival at the scene through international organizations.

An ambulance heading to the Hashashin area to transport a number of wounded and injured people was subjected to heavy gunfire by the occupation forces, which resulted in the injury of its crew. This necessitated sending three other ambulances to the scene to evacuate the wounded, including our injured crews. However, the occupation forces suddenly surrounded the area, and communication with the crew was completely cut off.

Yesterday evening, the occupation forces released one of the crew members after severely beating him.

The Society affirmed that targeting medical personnel constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and a breach of the Geneva Convention, holding the international community fully responsible for the continued targeting by the occupation of its personnel, facilities, and ambulances bearing the Red Crescent emblem, which is protected under international humanitarian law.

The number of the association's martyrs in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the aggression has reached 19, targeted by the occupation while they were carrying out their humanitarian work.

The Society renewed its appeals to the international community and UN institutions to take immediate action to provide protection for our staff working in Palestine, compel the occupation to respect the Red Crescent emblem, and protect civilians and medical and humanitarian workers in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Netanyahu believes that confrontation with Türkiye in Syria is inevitable.

Israeli media outlets, citing security sources, reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is holding security consultations to discuss concerns about Turkish influence in Syria, and that he is trying to portray a confrontation with Türkiye as inevitable.

According to the Walla news website, sources pointed to Syrian-Turkish contacts regarding the transfer of areas near Palmyra (central Syria, an archaeological site) to the Turkish army, in exchange for economic and military support for Damascus. The sources added that potential Turkish movements in Palmyra, central Syria, are raising significant Israeli concerns. They also noted that the new Syrian regime is attempting to restore military bases and missile and defense capabilities in the south, close to Israel.

Channel 12 also reported that Netanyahu, through his advisors, is urging Israeli media to emphasize that "a confrontation with Türkiye on Syrian soil is inevitable."

It's worth noting that a recent report by an Israeli government committee recommended that Netanyahu prepare for a potential war with Türkiye, given Tel Aviv's growing concerns about Ankara's alliance with the Damascus government following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the Security Budget and Force Buildup Inspection Committee, known as the Nagel Committee, after its chairman, Yaakov Nagel, warned Netanyahu in its January report that the Syrian-Turkish alliance could “create a new and significant threat to Israel’s security” and could develop into something “more dangerous than the Iranian threat.”

The committee concluded that Israel must prepare for a direct confrontation with Türkiye in light of potential tensions stemming from what it described as "Türkiye's ambitions to restore its Ottoman influence."

Syria TV reported that two members of the 42nd Division of the Syrian Ministry of Defense were injured in an Israeli attack targeting Palmyra military airport last Friday evening. Later, it reported that American helicopters were flying at low altitude over the city of Deir ez-Zor, without providing further details.

The Syrian Arab News Agency recently reported deaths and injuries in airstrikes launched by Israeli warplanes on the outskirts of the city of Daraa in the south of the country.

Following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad by opposition factions last December, Israel launched hundreds of raids on military installations, naval bases, and air bases across Syria, claiming that their goal was to prevent the new administration from seizing the former army's arsenal.

The Israeli army also penetrated the demilitarized buffer zone in the Golan Heights, located on the outskirts of the part of the Syrian plateau it occupies.

In February, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for a complete demilitarization of southern Syria, warning that his government would not accept the presence of security forces affiliated with the new Syrian authorities near its borders.

Israel plans a more aggressive invasion of Gaza

The Washington Post reported on Monday that the Israeli occupation army is preparing to launch a large-scale "ground operation" in Gaza that could last for months or longer, after Israel violated the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas last week and carried out a widespread bombardment of the Strip, killing hundreds.

The newspaper spoke with current and former Israeli officials, who explained that the "new, more aggressive tactics" will likely include "direct military control of humanitarian aid," "targeting more of Hamas' civilian leadership," and evacuating women, children, and verified civilians from neighborhoods to "humanitarian zones," without specifying the nature of these zones.

Officials said those not evacuated would face a blockade "very similar to a tactic used last year in northern Gaza." It's worth noting that in 2024, the Israeli military implemented a version of "The General's Plan," an ethnic cleansing scheme devised by retired IDF generals for northern Gaza.

The plan called for the complete evacuation of all Palestinian civilians south of the Netzarim corridor, a strip of land controlled by the Israeli military. Under the plan, if civilians did not leave, they would be treated as combatants and killed, either by military action or by starvation.

The Washington Post reported that the more brutal strategy reflects a change in military leadership, and that the new policy is more in line with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's viewpoint. Israeli military chief of staff Herzog Halevi resigned from his post earlier this month and was replaced by Eyal Zamir. Amir Aviv, the former deputy commander of the Gaza Division, explained to the Washington Post that President Donald Trump's strong support for Netanyahu gives Israeli military leaders greater confidence in obtaining the necessary equipment in Gaza.

"Now there is a new command [for the IDF], there is support from the United States, there is the fact that we have enough ammunition, and the fact that we have completed our main missions in the north and can focus on Gaza," Avivi said. "The plans are decisive; there will be a large-scale offensive and they will not stop until Hamas is completely eliminated. We will see."

It's worth noting that since October 7, 2023, Israel has destroyed the Gaza Strip, killing at least 50,000 Gazans. However, Israeli and American officials have said that Hamas has returned to its pre-war strength. The newspaper indicated that the Israeli occupation army will be no less cautious in its efforts to defeat Hamas.

According to the newspaper, Yossi Kuperwasser, a former senior Israeli military intelligence official and president of the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, explained that "the opposition is less now with Zamir and [Defense Minister Israel] Katz. They are more prepared."

"The government was committed to removing Hamas from power," Kuperwasser added. The security establishment was not happy with this idea. They were trying to focus more on military assets and less on civilian ones. Because once Hamas was removed from Gaza, the IDF would be forced to govern Gaza.

While the Washington Post report indicates that the Israeli military is planning a counterinsurgency campaign in Gaza, Katz stated that Tel Aviv will expel Palestinians and annex the Strip. He said on Friday, "I have instructed the IDF to seize additional areas in Gaza, evacuate residents, and expand the security zones around Gaza to protect Israeli population centers and IDF soldiers."

The Israeli Security Council on Saturday established a new office to coordinate the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza.

Since breaching the ceasefire and hostage agreement last week, Israel has resumed its massive bombardment of Gaza. In addition, Israeli forces have attacked Rafah in southern Gaza and the Netzarim crossing in central Gaza.

Palestinian Prisoners in Ofer Israeli prison and the Endless Suffering

The Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Commission reported on Monday, citing its lawyer, that living and health conditions at Ofer prison remain difficult and complex due to Israel's retaliatory policies against prisoners.

She said: "The Israeli occupation authorities are exploiting this holy month, the month of fasting and worship, to impose a harsh and bitter reality on prisoners, by obstructing their ability to perform religious rituals and worship, in addition to deliberately starving them, attempting to isolate them from the outside world, and manipulating the clock and the call to prayer times to mislead them."

The Commission, through its lawyers, was able to visit a group of sick prisoners in detention, namely:

Prisoner Zuhair Abdul Hadi (64 years old), from Birzeit/Ramallah, suffers from high blood pressure, dry eyes, and high triglycerides. The prison administration deliberately neglects his medical condition and refuses to provide him with the necessary medication.

Prisoner Islam Zayed (17 years old), from Qalandia camp north of Jerusalem, suffered from health problems before his arrest, including bone problems and a health crisis. The prison administration refuses to provide him with any kind of medication.

Prisoner Abdullah Jaradat (22 years old), from the town of Sa'ir/Hebron, is an administrative detainee. He has been issued two administrative detention orders, each for a period of six months. He suffers from severe toothache and occasional dizziness.

Regarding the conditions at Ofer prison, prisoner Jaradat told the Commission's lawyer that the situation is tragic, noting that there has been no improvement in the conditions of prisoners in the prison, as the policy of repression and raids continues.

He added that on the third day of Ramadan, the prisoners were subjected to a raid by the prison administration's repression units on Section 21. They were then transferred to Section 25, while prisoners from Section 25 were transferred to Section 21. The raid was accompanied by physical assaults on the prisoners.

Jaradat also explained that the prisoners in his section have not been released for four weeks due to punishments imposed on them for unknown reasons.

Despite the presence of severe and incurable medical cases, the administration deliberately does not separate these prisoners from the rest of the population.

The Commission's lawyer stated in a statement on Monday that the food provided to prisoners is poor and insufficient, despite the advent of Ramadan, and that the break lasts only one hour.

The Commission's lawyer visited prisoner Muhammad Saleh Muhammad Hamdan (35 years old) from Al-Ain refugee camp in Nablus, who has been in administrative detention since March 22, 2023. He was shot with three bullets in both feet, and did not undergo any physical therapy after the bullets were removed, which led to severe nerve damage. He wears a pacemaker that must be replaced every five years, and the time to replace it is June 18, 2024.

Hamdan also suffers from the arduous journey of replacing the pacemaker. He is taken out of the hospital at 10:00 a.m. and is then returned the next morning at around 11:00 a.m. He remains shackled the entire time. He also suffers from scabies and constant itching on his body without treatment, and has lost 15 kilograms of weight.

Israeli occupation continues its aggression on Jenin and Tulkarm, amid forced displacement.

The Israeli occupation continues its aggression on the city of Tulkarm and its camp for the 57th consecutive day, and on the Nour Shams camp for the 44th day, amid military reinforcements and the forced displacement of residents.

Local sources said that after midnight, the occupation forces dispatched military reinforcements, including heavy machinery and bulldozers, accompanied by police vehicles, to the city and its two camps, amidst the presence of helicopters and reconnaissance aircraft in the skies above the area.

It also deployed its vehicles around Nour Shams camp and in the Manshiyeh neighborhood, amid a tight siege of the camp, accompanied by the occupation forces seizing dozens of homes and converting them into military barracks after forcing their residents to evacuate.

The occupation forces continue to force the remaining residents of several neighborhoods in Tulkarm refugee camp to leave their homes by threatening to demolish and burn them while they are still inside. This is particularly true in the neighborhoods on the outskirts of the camp, namely Al-Hadaida, Al-Matar, Al-Raba'a, Qaqoun, and Marbat Hanoun. This has led to a wave of forced displacement of residents.

The occupation forces also stormed the Shuwaika and Dhenaba suburbs in the north of the city, with their vehicles and bulldozers, and roamed the streets and neighborhoods, obstructing the movement of vehicles and citizens.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces continue to seize more than eight residential buildings in the vicinity of the traffic circle in the northern neighborhood adjacent to Nablus Street in Tulkarm. These buildings, which house dozens of apartments, have been forcibly evicted from their homes, transformed into military barracks, and transformed the area into a closed military zone.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces have intensified their military presence on Nablus Street, closing off parts of it with earth mounds, amid measures to restrict vehicle movement by stopping and searching vehicles and detaining their passengers for extended periods after checking their IDs.

The ongoing escalation by Israeli occupation forces in the city of Tulkarm and its two camps has resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant. Dozens more have been injured and arrested, and more than 24,000 people have been forcibly displaced from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, along with dozens of families from the city's northern neighborhood.

The aggression also caused widespread destruction to the infrastructure, including homes, shops, and vehicles, which were completely and partially demolished, burned, vandalized, looted, and stolen. The entrances and alleys of the camps were also closed off with earth mounds.

The number of displaced persons from the camp reached 21,000, distributed between the city of Jenin and some villages in the governorate.

Jenin Municipality announced that the occupation authorities had issued demolition orders for approximately 66 buildings, totaling 300 homes, inside Jenin camp, in several neighborhoods, including Al-Aloub, Al-Hawashin, and Al-Samran. The occupation authorities are also preventing camp residents from entering the camp to reach their homes and remove their belongings.

According to the Jenin Municipality, the occupation forces have bulldozed 100% of the camp's streets and nearly 80% of the city's streets, while the residents of 3,200 homes have been displaced from the camp.
