Representatives of seven countries visit the Gaza Strip

Today, Tuesday, representatives of seven member states visited the Gaza Strip to celebrate World Humanitarian Day in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The event, chaired by Humanitarian Coordinator Lynne Hastings, was attended by senior diplomats from Australia, Chile, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The delegation visited the Shujaiya area in Gaza City, where it met a family whose home was destroyed during the escalation of hostilities in 2021.

The delegation discussed the urgent need to build and rehabilitate homes and treat psychological trauma among children and adults.

The group then visited the headquarters of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, where they paid tribute to frontline responders who often risk their lives to save the lives of others. They also learned about the impact of attacks on medical personnel and facilities.

World Humanitarian Day was observed globally in August, bringing together partners from across the humanitarian system to advocate for the survival, well-being and dignity of people affected by crises, and for the safety and security of aid workers.

In the occupied Palestinian territory, approximately 2.1 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, and thousands are participating in efforts to support them, consisting of volunteers, Palestinian NGO staff, municipal workers, government employees, and international actors, among others.
