Brazil dismisses its ambassador to Israel

Translate by "Jerusalem" dot com - The Brazilian Foreign Ministry has decided to dismiss its ambassador to Israel , Gerson de Ferentes, from his post, in a move that could signal a change in the country's policy.

Ferentes was appointed by former President Jair Bolsonaro in early 2021, and his dismissal is the first decision taken by the new President Lula da Silva and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. As mentioned by the Hebrew website, Ynet.

During the Bolsonaro era, Brazil changed traditional voting patterns and supported Israel in international organizations, in contrast to the country's foreign ministry's traditional stance.

The new foreign minister, Vieira, said that his country will cooperate with Arab countries, especially Palestine.

Bolsonaro had decided to appoint De Ferentes in order to deepen military relations with Israel, and he was planning to move the embassy to Jerusalem, which was not implemented under pressure from Arab countries, to settle only on opening a commercial office there.
