Qatar has confirmed that it will continue its efforts to reach a settlement that ends the ongoing Israeli war on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has lasted for two years.
This was stated in a speech delivered by Doha's representative to the United Nations, Aliya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, before the UN General Assembly in a general session.
The session was dedicated to agenda item 64 concerning the use of the veto power, and was held in accordance with resolution 76/262, following the United States' use of the veto against a draft resolution regarding the situation in Gaza.
Qatar pointed out that the session is being held in the aftermath of the veto used in the Security Council on September 18 (last month) against the draft resolution presented by the elected countries in the council regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 66,225 deaths and 168,938 injuries, most of whom are children and women.
Qatar expressed its regret over the Security Council's failure to adopt a draft resolution aimed at putting an end to the catastrophic humanitarian suffering of civilians in the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli aggression.
Qatar emphasized that it will continue its efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and maintain international peace and security, and to work towards a settlement that ends the war in the Gaza Strip.
It affirmed its readiness to continue effective engagement in efforts to bring an end to the war in the Gaza Strip, within the framework of the initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Trump plan also calls for the establishment of an international supervisory body headed by him, responsible for training a governance administration in Gaza, without the participation of "Hamas".
Nevertheless, the Israeli army continues its ground deployment in key areas of Gaza City, bombing civilians and demolishing buildings and residential facilities.
Qatar will continue its efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and maintain international peace and security.
