Israel.. Lapid considers the "Cabinet" decision to occupy Gaza a "disaster"

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid considered the approval of the security cabinet's plan by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fully occupy the Gaza Strip a "disaster that will lead to many other disasters." Lapid confirmed in a tweet that this decision is completely contrary to the opinion of the army and security circles.

Lapid added that this step, led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, will lead to the death of Israeli hostages held by Palestinian factions in Gaza, the killing of a large number of soldiers, and will cost Israeli taxpayers tens of billions, leading to a political collapse.

In a statement from Netanyahu's office, it was announced that the Israeli army is prepared to occupy what remains of the city of Gaza, while distributing humanitarian aid to civilians outside combat areas. The "cabinet" adopted what it described as five principles to end the war, including disarming Hamas and returning all hostages.

During the "cabinet" meeting, Netanyahu presented a "gradual" plan to occupy the Gaza Strip, despite opposition from the military establishment due to the risk to the lives of hostages and soldiers. The plan stipulates that the Israeli army will begin moving towards areas it has not previously entered, with the aim of occupying them.

Reports indicate that the Israeli army has occupied the entire city of Gaza except for very small areas, and Israeli forces have destroyed hundreds of buildings in the areas not occupied through air and artillery bombardment. Estimates show that the areas not occupied by Israeli forces represent about 10-15 percent of the Gaza Strip's area.

Disagreements are increasing in Israel regarding the complete reoccupation of the Gaza Strip, including areas where Israeli hostages are likely to be present. Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff is proposing a encirclement plan that includes several axes in Gaza, aimed at exerting military pressure on Hamas.

According to a poll, 52 percent of Israelis hold their government responsible for failing to reach an agreement with Hamas. Amid U.S. support, Israel is committing genocide in Gaza that includes killing, starvation, and destruction, ignoring international calls.
