Israeli security forces have decided to prevent the Freedom Flotilla ship "Madeleine" from approaching the coast of the Gaza Strip, in order to prevent a precedent that could break the blockade imposed on the Strip, Israeli media reported Thursday.
The Jerusalem Post, citing Israeli military sources, reported that a direct message will be sent to the activists on board the Madeleine, urging them to stay away from the Gaza Strip's coast.
According to the sources, if the activists ignore these instructions, the Israeli military may seize control of the ship and arrest those on board.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that Defense Minister Yisrael Katz will hold a special session to discuss the fate of the ship and its passengers, noting that the proposed scenarios include intercepting the ship, preventing it from proceeding, and even arresting the activists on board.
These warnings come amid escalating tensions surrounding attempts to break the naval blockade on the Gaza Strip, with international activists launching initiatives to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged population.
