US President Donald Trump's envoy to Syria and US Ambassador to Ankara, Tom Barak, announced that he discussed the situation in Syria and the region in a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Wednesday.
Barak said on the X platform that the US president believes that Syria should not be a platform for any other country to threaten Syria's neighbors, including Israel.
The Jerusalem Post had previously reported that Trump's envoy would meet with a number of senior Israeli officials.
The Israeli newspaper quoted an unnamed informed source as saying that Barak's talks will focus on the situation in Syria and the current tensions between Israel and Turkey.
The Israeli occupation army announced on Tuesday that it had shelled an area in southern Syria with artillery following the launching of shells from Syrian territory towards the Golan Heights.
