Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed on Thursday the importance of supporting initiatives to recognize the State of Palestine.

This came in a phone call with his Brazilian counterpart, Lula da Silva, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Department.

During the call, the two presidents discussed bilateral relations between Türkiye and Brazil, in addition to regional and international issues, according to the statement.

Erdogan pointed out that Brazil's position regarding the brutality committed by Israel in the Palestinian territories is worthy of appreciation.

He stressed the need to increase efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and achieve a permanent ceasefire.

He pointed out that Israel continues to escalate its attacks and commit massacres despite Hamas accepting the ceasefire.

The Turkish President stressed the importance of supporting initiatives related to the recognition of the State of Palestine.

He pointed out that Türkiye is also closely following developments related to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

He stated that Türkiye urges the two parties to return to negotiations and work to achieve a just peace on the basis of rights and law.

Erdogan also expressed his condolences to the victims of torrential rains and floods in Brazil.

In this context, he stressed that Türkiye stands with the Brazilian people.
