The United Nations warns of an “imminent terrifying scenario” in Gaza

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in the occupied Palestinian territories, Lynn Hastings, warned of an “imminent terrifying scenario” in Gaza, in which humanitarian activities will be of no use.

Hastings indicated in a written statement on Tuesday that there is no safe place in Gaza and there is no longer a place to turn to.

She stressed that Israel's start of attacks after the "humanitarian truce" pushed tens of thousands of people into areas facing increasing pressure in order to find food, water, shelter, and safe spaces.

She stated that shelters are lacking in capabilities in Gaza, and the health system is collapsed, in addition to the lack of clean drinking water, and malnutrition among mentally and physically exhausted people, which can lead to epidemics that pose a threat to public health.

She pointed out that the space for humanitarian aid activities in Gaza is “constantly shrinking” and that UN staff cannot fully perform their duties.

She continued: "The United Nations and civil society organizations alone cannot support a population of 2.2 million people. The commercial and public sectors must be allowed to bring supplies to Gaza, and this must include fuel in a way that guarantees Israel's security."

She added: "There is an even more terrifying scenario about to emerge (in Gaza), to which humanitarian aid activities will not be able to respond."
