The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz reported, on Sunday, that the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate returned the lands it sold in the western part of occupied Jerusalem.
The area, which covers an area of about 10 dunams, is located in the heart of the Abu Tor neighborhood in the western part of occupied Jerusalem.
These lands were sold to Jewish businessmen in 2013, which sparked anger among many, and they considered that real estate related to Al-Ayan was being diverted.
The church said at the time that the sale of the area was tantamount to a 100-year lease, due to the financial hardship the Patriarchate was experiencing at the time, and now the area has been bought back for its religious value.
