The head of the occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, in cooperation with Minister of Security Israel Katz, issued direct directives to the occupation army to begin a wide-ranging military operation in various areas of the West Bank. These military movements come in the wake of a shooting incident in the town of 'Tel', where the occupation seeks to impose a new security reality by intensifying raids and field incursions.
The decisions issued by Netanyahu's office included immediate instructions to demolish the home of the perpetrator of the operation in Tel village, in addition to approving the expansion of military operations in neighboring villages and towns. The occupation authorities claim that these areas are a launching point for attacks, which prompted them to give the green light to field forces to operate 'with full force' without specific geographical restrictions.
As part of the collective punishment policy, the political and security leadership of the occupation decided to withdraw work permits from all residents of the targeted villages in the West Bank, as a punitive measure aimed at economic constriction. The orders also included conducting extensive search campaigns to collect weapons and increasing the pace of arrests, in an attempt to deter any future resistance operations in those areas.
On the settlement track, the joint statement announced the immediate start of government procedures aimed at legalizing a number of existing settlement outposts that were previously classified as 'illegal' even under occupation laws. The decision was not limited to that, but also included planning for the establishment of new settlement outposts in strategic locations in the West Bank, which portends a wide wave of seizure of Palestinian lands.
These developments come at a time when international warnings are escalating about the danger of settlement expansion, which undermines any chances for peace or stability in the region. Observers confirm that Netanyahu's and Katz's decisions represent a grave violation of international law, and push the field situation towards further explosion in the absence of any political horizon and the escalation of Israeli attacks.
Our forces will hunt down the perpetrators everywhere and will reach everyone behind them to hold them accountable.
