It is a clear political declaration that Washington cannot be relied upon; it no longer even recognizes the minimum legitimacy of Palestinian existence and representation, including before the United Nations.
This audacity cannot be separated from the nature of the Trump administration, which decided from the very first moment to fully align with Israel, not only as a strategic ally but as the sole party authorized to determine the future of the region.
A blatant violation of international agreements
Legally, what Washington has done represents a blatant violation of the UN Headquarters Agreement signed in 1947, which obligates the host country to grant visas to all representatives of member states and observers, regardless of political disagreements.
Ignoring these obligations not only harms Palestine but also undermines the independence of the UN itself, making it a hostage to the will of the host country. If the organization is unable to ensure the access of a head of state observer to its general assembly, despite openly betting on Washington, how can it protect this people's right to self-determination and enable them to achieve their freedom, independence, and the return of their refugees?
Washington: From alleged mediator to involved party
Washington's decision unequivocally proves that it is not a mediator but a party involved in the project to liquidate the Palestinian cause. Will this truth prompt other international powers to reconsider the necessity of breaking the American monopoly and to assume their responsibilities, encouraging Palestinians to restore their political unity in the face of plans aimed at erasing Palestine? If these countries are indeed sincere to the end in recognizing the State of Palestine and enabling its people to determine their destiny and embody their sovereignty, they must confirm the credibility of their recent positions, which are not merely a way to absolve themselves before public opinion in their countries.
Between Gaza and New York: The goal is liquidation
The Israeli-American pretext in Gaza is "rooting out Hamas," while the reality on the ground is a genocide targeting human lives and infrastructure. In New York, the "pretext is procedural," while its function is to exclude Palestine, including the chronic leadership betting on Washington from the UN platform. This confirms that Palestine is the target, in all its components, whether it is an authority whose only option is to appease Washington and Tel Aviv or a resistance to their schemes.
The failure of the policy of chasing after and appeasing
It is time for the leadership that dominates decision-making and the national path to recognize that it has taken a path that has brought nothing but national disasters, and that chasing after the mirage of a settlement with Washington and Tel Aviv has only led to further fragmentation. Betting on Washington has not only been a losing gamble but a destructive one, as it has never been a mediator but a key party in the liquidation project.
An opportunity for unity and comprehensive national revival
This fallacy of betting on the American role could be a pivotal moment that opens the door for revitalizing the Palestinian situation; if Palestinian leaderships read it well and draw lessons from it through: First: immediately working to implement the Beijing Agreement to restore the role and status of the Palestine Liberation Organization and rebuild it as a national front uniting all Palestinians.
Second: formulating a national program based on liberation and rights, not on managing crises or waiting for "American favors or gifts."
Third: activating tools of popular power and diplomacy in alliance with international forces and peoples that reject genocide as they reject turning the United Nations into an annex of the White House.
All Palestinians face urgent obligations to close the chapter of division and confront the imminent dangers to the national destiny as a whole. This necessitates the immediate formation of a national unity government authorized to address all the consequences of genocide and what has befallen the political system in all its known ailments to confront major dangers, including serious preparations for comprehensive general elections within a timeframe agreed upon to restore the trust of the people that cannot be entrusted to anyone else.
Are we serious about drawing lessons?
It is no longer possible to continue playing the Israeli game that the problem lies with "Hamas" or with "the authority." The American-Israeli targeting includes all Palestinians. This truth should be the starting point for overcoming division and restoring the battle for freedom and liberation from occupation.
