An American from the streets of Istanbul: Solidarity with Palestine is the greatest test of humanity.

American activist Cassandra McLaughlin began a silent protest in the Kadıköy area of Istanbul, where she held a sign that read: 'God will hold us accountable, not governments, for Gaza.' This step aims to highlight the suffering of Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

McLaughlin, who is 28 years old, explained that she felt disturbed by merely watching as famine and Israeli starvation policies continued in Gaza. Therefore, she decided to take a symbolic step to convey the voices and suffering of Palestinians to the world.

During her stay in London, McLaughlin participated in several demonstrations in solidarity with Palestine, but she felt it was also necessary to act individually. She emphasized that individual actions are as important as mass demonstrations.

McLaughlin spoke about the genocide being committed by the occupying state in Gaza since October 7, 2023, which has resulted in 62,744 martyrs and 158,259 injured, most of whom are children and women. She also noted that famine has killed 300 Palestinians, including 117 children.

She chose the Kadıköy area because it is filled with drawings and images that express the suffering of Palestine. Her initiative received significant support from the residents, with some expressing their support and raising slogans like 'Freedom for Palestine.'

McLaughlin pointed out that the protest was characterized by silence, as she did not utter a single word but simply held her sign, placing mirrors in front of and behind her to encourage people to reflect on themselves. Many were surprised to see a foreign activist doing this.

The activist affirmed that solidarity with the Palestinian people is a major human test, and the way we pay attention to this issue will determine our future. She stressed the importance of discussing Palestine at home and with friends.

McLaughlin called for the importance of boycott campaigns, noting that the economic issue is very strategic. She affirmed that the freedom of Palestine is the freedom of the entire world, and she will continue her individual protests in Turkey.

McLaughlin intends to participate in the 'Voice for Gaza' event that will be organized through social media, emphasizing the importance of continuing solidarity with Palestinians around the world.
