The Israeli occupation army destroyed more than 300 homes in the Al-Zeitoun neighborhood southeast of Gaza City within three days, as part of a focused military operation that includes systematic bombing and demolition of homes. These operations are part of a strategy implemented since October 7, 2023, where the occupation seeks to achieve multiple objectives by destroying residential neighborhoods.
According to military expert Hatem Karim Al-Falahi, the main objective of the demolition operations is to weaken the resistance factions and their infrastructure located in residential areas. This type of aggression is considered an effective means of pressuring the resistance, which may force it to make concessions or provoke public anger against it.
Changing the demographic and geographic composition of the area is another goal of the demolition operations, as the destroyed neighborhoods become uninhabitable, leading to the forced displacement of residents. This displacement contributes to the creation of buffer security zones, making it easier for the occupation to control the geography later on.
Reports indicate that there are areas within the Gaza Strip that have been destroyed by up to 80% or 90%. This extensive destruction will lead to significant repercussions that may last for long periods, such as the length of the reconstruction process, which will require substantial resources and a long time.
Major Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense Authority in the Gaza Strip, confirmed that the occupation army is using high-explosive bombs aimed at destroying the vicinity of the targeted home, causing the greatest possible loss of life and property.
Al-Falahi pointed out that the anticipated Israeli incursion into Gaza City with the aim of occupying it will be a major challenge for the occupation army, due to the density of the buildings and their ability to obstruct visibility for advancing forces, making it easier for resistance fighters to move within these areas.
In light of this information, the statements from the Israeli Chief of Staff about military operations that may extend to 2026 seem logical, as Gaza City is the largest in terms of area and population and will require a long time to subdue.
The demolition and destruction operations aim to weaken the resistance factions and change the demographics of the area.
