A new bill would give Israel access to B-2 bombers and massive bombs to strike Iran.

A new bipartisan bill introduced in Congress on Wednesday would grant Israel access to US weapons to launch strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, similar to the law President Donald Trump signed last month.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) introduced the Bunker Destruction Act. “Iran, the leading state sponsor of terrorism and one of America’s most formidable enemies, cannot acquire a nuclear weapon. That’s why I strongly supported our military actions last month,” Gottheimer said in a statement. “Iran has killed dozens of Americans, including members of our military, and has repeatedly attacked our key democratic ally, Israel. Israel must be able to defend itself against Iran and ensure that Iran cannot rebuild its nuclear capabilities.”

Gottheimer has introduced similar bills in previous congressional sessions. If passed, the bill would grant Israel access to and use of American B-2 bombers and 30,000-pound GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs, which are currently used only by the United States.

On June 22, Trump deployed B-2 bombers and massive bombers to strike nuclear facilities in Iran.

While the legislation requires that Iran be working on a nuclear weapon before Israel can acquire the most advanced weapons in the US arsenal, politicians in Washington and Tel Aviv have consistently asserted that Tehran is developing a nuclear weapon without evidence.

These allegations persisted even as the Islamic Republic subjected itself to a comprehensive inspection regime from the International Atomic Energy Agency, which confirmed that Iran was not developing a nuclear weapon.

Tel Aviv and Washington used false claims that Iran was weeks away from obtaining a nuclear weapon to justify their aggressive war on Iran last month. Tehran announced on Wednesday that it would withdraw international nuclear inspectors in response to the intensified bombing campaign launched by the United States and Israel.
