Yair Golan, head of the Israeli Democratic Party, said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is promoting a dangerous new vision: handing over control of a militia in the Gaza Strip linked to the Islamic State.
Golan added that Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, is creating a new time bomb in Gaza instead of reaching a deal, returning the hostages, establishing arrangements with what he called the "moderate Sunni axis," and restoring security to Israelis.
Golan pointed out that this is not a mistake, but rather a method, adding that Netanyahu is selling out the security of the Israeli people for one more day in power, and he must be removed immediately from the decision-making circle.
Separately, the newspaper "Israel Hayom" quoted a member of the security cabinet as saying that the cabinet had not approved arming groups in Gaza, but that Israel was already working to inflame the dispute between Hamas and other armed groups.
Arming gangs
Israeli state radio quoted Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the far-right Yisrael Beiteinu party, as saying that Israel had delivered weapons to gangs in the Gaza Strip on the orders of the Israeli Prime Minister.
Previous Israeli media reports spoke of the emergence of "armed criminal groups" in Gaza, operating under the protection of the Israeli army and attacking Palestinians.
Lieberman told the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation that "Israel transferred assault rifles and light weapons to criminal militias in Gaza," stressing that this move was carried out "on Netanyahu's orders."
He added that arming criminal gangs in Gaza had not received approval from the security cabinet, stressing that the head of the General Security Service (Shin Bet) was aware of the matter.
Hamas has repeatedly accused what it describes as Israeli-backed "armed gangs" of plundering the scarce humanitarian aid entering Gaza, under a stifling Israeli blockade.
The war of extermination waged by Israel against Gaza, with American support, has left approximately 180,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and famine has claimed the lives of many, including children.
